\nL\u2019Equipe<\/a>, investment fund Slam is now controlling the two major
\nMMA promotions in France, Ares and HXMMA. Described as a fund
\ndedicated to investment opportunities \u201cat the intersection of
\nsport, luxury, art, and music,\u201d Slam is managed by European
\ninvestment firm Trail. For the moment, Ares and HXMMA will not
\nmerge, as the two promotions will continue operating as separate
\nentities.<\/p>\n“Today, we are clearly the number one in France. The next step will
\nbe Europe,\u201d (translation by the author) Trail founder and CEO
\nXavier Marin told L\u2019Equipe, setting a three-year timeline to become
\nEurope\u2019s leading MMA organization. While it has held events outside
\nParis, Ares has historically been tied to the French capital. Its
\norigins are closely linked to the surge in popularity of MMA
\nFactory, the gym where former Ultimate Fighting Championship
\nheavyweight titleholder Francis Ngannou and former interim
\nheavyweight champion Ciryl Gane trained, among others. Gane is
\ncurrently a partner and investor in Ares. HXMMA\u2019s roots likewise
\ntrace back to Paris, though the promotion has expanded outside
\nFrance as well.<\/p>\n
In the interview with L\u2019\u00c9quipe, Marin drew a deliberate parallel
\nwith boxing’s fragmentation to explain the acquisition. “In MMA,
\nthere is one major player in the United States: the UFC. There is
\none major player in France. And there is the opportunity and need
\nfor a major player in Europe.” He also stated that MMA should
\neventually have its own independent federation in France, separate
\nfrom the French Boxing Federation under which it currently
\noperates.<\/p>\n
Ares\u2019 upcoming event will go down at the Adidas Arena in Paris on
\nJune 6, featuring an interim welterweight title clash between Alvi
\nDasuyev and Mohamed Soumah at Ares 41. HXMMA will return to the
\nArkea Arena in Bordeaux on May 29 for HXMMA 44. The event is
\nheadlined by a 155-pound tilt between veterans Wilson Varela and
