Regardless of the outcome of the next welterweight title fight,
\nCarlos
\nPrates<\/a> is confident that he will get a shot at the one after
\nthat. <\/p>\n

Rumors suggest that Islam
\nMakhachev<\/a> will put his welterweight title on the line against
\nIan
\nGarry<\/a> this summer. Prates is confident that he will get a title
\nshot against the winner of that fight. However, it could mean a
\nlong period of inactivity for Prates if Makhachev wins, as the
\nDagestani champion doesn\u2019t fight very often. Meanwhile, a win for
\nGarry should ideally lead to an immediate rematch for
\nMakhachev. <\/p>\n

However, Prates doesn\u2019t think that\u2019s how it will play out. Prates
\nhad a conversation with the
\nUFC<\/a> brass, the details of which he refuses to divulge. However,
\nthe Brazilian firmly believes he will get the shot regardless of
\nthe winner of the fight between Makhachev and Garry.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t think they\u2019re gonna do a rematch if Makhachev loses,\u201d
\nPrates said on “The
\nAriel Helwani Show.\u201d<\/a> \u201cI talked with Dana and the UFC after my
\nfight. We talked [about] some things I cannot say. But I really
\nthink I will be the next. No matter who gets the win between Islam
\nand Ian
\nGarry<\/a>, I will be the next.\u201d <\/p>\n

The Skills to Pull Off an Upset<\/h2>\n

While Prates believes Makhachev will win, he believes Garry has the
\ntools to pull off an upset. \u201cThe Nightmare\u201d also wants Garry to win
\nso that he can avenge his lone UFC loss against the Irishman in a
\ntitle fight.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe favorite is Makhachev, and I think he\u2019s gonna win,\u201d Prates
\nsaid. \u201cBut I really think Ian has some skills to beat Islam. He can
\nbeat Islam. He has a real chance to beat Islam. I want him to win,
\nand then we can do a rematch for the belt. It would be
\namazing.\u201d<\/p>\n

Prates (24-7) has finished all seven of his UFC wins while only
\ndropping a hard-fought decision against Garry last year. Prates and
\nGarry have since become good friends. Prates most recently made a
\nlegitimate claim for a title shot by putting on a lopside beating
\nof former champ Jack
\nDella Maddalena<\/a> before finishing him in the third round at UFC
\nPerth earlier this month. <\/p>\n
