\nMoraes<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Dean was the third man in the cage when Nkuta and Moraes clashed in
\na bantamweight tilt at
\nMost Valuable Promotions “Rousey vs. Carano”<\/a> last weekend in
\nLos Angeles, California. While it was a competitive fight, Nkuta
\nwas apparently edging past Moraes in the final round. <\/p>\n

However, Moraes caught Nkuta in a guillotine with 10 seconds left
\nin the fight. While Nkuta tried to survive till the bell, Moraes
\nheld on to the choke for a few moments after the final bell despite
\nDean\u2019s intervention. As Nkuta was choked unconscious, Dean took a
\nlong look at the replay before declaring it a submission win for
\nMoraes.  <\/p>\n

The controversial ending faced massive backlash from fans and
\npundits alike. However, Dean recently defended his call of a
\nsubmission win for Moraes. Dean explains that he is usually focused
\non a fighter’s limbs when they are caught in a choke, where they
\ncan pass out. However, Dean briefly shifted his focus to Moraes\u2019
\nhands before the final bell to figure out how to pull him away
\nimmediately after the bell. Since his focus was diverted in the
\nfinal seconds, Dean decided to take a long look at the replay.
\nAccording to Dean\u2019s judgment based on the replay, Nkuta was
\nunconscious just a fraction of a second before the final bell,
\nwhich made him declare it a win for Moraes.<\/p>\n

Defending His Call<\/h2>\n

  \u201cI want to see the body because the hands and often the legs
\nare what\u2019s gonna give you your clue that someone\u2019s out,\u201d Dean said.
\n\u201cWhereas looking at their face won\u2019t. As it\u2019s time for me to stop
\nthe fight, I\u2019m looking at [Moraes\u2019] hands because I\u2019m trying to
\nfigure out which grips he has and what I might have to fight if
\nhe\u2019s not letting go instantly. So that\u2019s where my focus kind of
\nshifted towards the hands\u2026 I went out to look at the replay. And it
\ndefinitely showed that he went unconscious before the bell, right a
\nfraction of a second before the bell.\u201d
