\nVerhoeven<\/a> only wants the concerned parties to admit that they
\nmade a mistake in his controversial loss against Oleksandr
\nUsyk. <\/p>\n

Verhoeven challenged Usyk for the WBC heavyweight title last
\nweekend in front of the Pyramids in Giza, Egypt. Verhoeven clearly
\noutclassed Usyk for most of the fight and appeared to be on his way
\nto shock the world with a massive upset. However, Usyk dropped
\nVerhoeven with an uppercut in the final seconds of the 11th round.
\nWhile Verhoeven returned to his feet, Usyk backed him up with a
\nbarrage of shots, which was enough for referee Mark Lyson to step
\nin with a second left in the round. <\/p>\n

If the last-second stoppage wasn\u2019t controversial enough, rumors
\nalso suggest that Lyson stopped the fight after the bell.
\nVerhoeven\u2019s coach, Peter Fury, claims Lyson even admitted his
\nmistake on their flight back home. Verhoeven believes that to err
\nis human. However, he wants Lyson to merely admit his mistake and
\napologize. <\/p>\n

\u201cHe can say, \u2018You guys are right. I made a mistake.\u2019 And that\u2019s a
\nfair point, that can happen. Everybody is human,\u201d Verhoeven said on
\n“The Ariel Helwani Show\u201d<\/a> \u201cThere\u2019s always room
\nfor mistakes. Admit those mistakes, apologize, and let\u2019s continue
\nfrom there.\u201d <\/p>\n

The Reason Behind the Appeal<\/h2>\n

The open-scoring bout showed the fighters the judges\u2019 scorecards
\nafter every four rounds. Despite feeling like he was evidently
\nleading, Verhoeven surprisingly saw that the scorecards were even
\nboth times they were shown. Verhoeven believes, with him originally
\nbeing a kickboxer, the bout was scored with a \u201cprotective\u201d
\nstandpoint for boxing. Verhoeven has now filed a review appeal with
\nthe Middle East Professional Boxing Commission. Verhoeven expects
\nnothing more from the appeal than an apology from the involved
\nparties.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s why we appealed it,\u201d Verhoeven said. \u201cAll they can say is,
\n\u2018Okay, Rico, we apologize. We should have done better; we made a
\nmistake.\u2019 That\u2019s all you can ask for. You can\u2019t sit here, be angry,
\nand waste all your energy on that. It\u2019s not gonna change the
\noutcome. It\u2019s not gonna make me feel better.\u201d <\/p>\n
