Doctors have determined that B.J. Penn<\/a> is
\nmentally fit to stand trial, according to Hawaii News Now<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The
\nUFC<\/a> Hall of Famer was in court this past Friday for a hearing
\nin his ongoing domestic violence case. Penn faces multiple charges
\nincluding assault and violating a restraining order imposed by his
\nmother, Lorraine Shin. Shin has alleged that she has been subject
\nto \u201cextreme psychological abuse\u201d from her son. Meanwhile, Penn has
\nclaimed that his mother and brothers have been murdered and
\nreplaced by imposters. Shin has as stated that she believes her son
\nsuffers from Capgras delusional syndrome, a psychiatric disorder in
\nwhich a person holds a delusion that a friend, spouse, parent,
\nother close family member has been replaced by an identical
\nimposter<\/p>\n

Ongoing Legal Issues<\/h2>\n

Penn\u2019s attorney plans to file a motion to dismiss the charges
\nagainst his client, per the report. The former UFC lightweight and
\nwelterweight champion was
\narrested multiple times<\/a> over the course of 2025, including for
\nshoving his mother, stealing her mail and other property and
\nviolating the protective order. Penn missed his initially scheduled
\ncourt-ordered fitness exam last year. He is due back in court on
\nJuly 8.<\/p>\n

Penn last fought on May 11, 2019, when he dropped a unanimous
\ndecision to Clay Guida<\/a> in
\nhis final Octagon appearance at UFC 237. \u201cThe Prodigy\u201d exited the
\npromotion on a seven-bout losing streak.<\/p>\n
