The
\nUltimate Fighting Championship<\/a> gala extravaganza has
\nencountered a legal hitch.<\/p>\n

On Friday, the Public Integrity Project\u2014a firm with the mission
\nstatement to \u201cstop corruption\u201d\u2014sued the U.S. government on behalf
\nof two individuals from Virginia. The
\nlawsuit filed<\/a> in the U.S. District Court for the District of
\nColumbia (D.D.C.), defendants include the Acting Director of the
\nNational Park Service (NPS) Jessica Bowron, the National Capital
\nRegion Director of the NPS Jen Nersesian, the U.S. Department of
\nthe Interior and its Secretary, Doug Burgum. The plaintiffs request
\nthat the court deems the organization of the event itself unlawful
\nand shuts it down, while removing the structures built on the White
\nHouse lawn to accommodate the fight card.<\/p>\n

In the suit itself, the demand for relief declares that the
\narrangement between the Ultimate Fighting Championship<\/a> and the White
\nHouse is corrupt, partially due to the personal relationship
\nbetween President Donald Trump and UFC President and CEO Dana
\nWhite. The lawsuit goes on to point out that the President will
\ngive \u201cunfettered access to the White House and Lincoln Memorial to
\nstage a private, for-profit sports event.\u201d<\/p>\n

Corrupt use of our most sacred national monuments for private
\ngain<\/h2>\n

Attorney Brendan Ballou put out a statement to the Associated Press
\nin regards to the suit. In it, he briefly the reason for why the
\nPublic Integrity Project got involved.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is a fundamentally private, commercial, corrupt use of our
\nmost sacred national monuments for private gain. And that is what
\nis motivating this lawsuit,\u201d Ballou stated.<\/p>\n

The grounds for the suit include that the event violates NPS
\nregulations<\/a> that specifically write the NPS will not permit the
\nstaging of a sporting event that is \u201cconducted primarily for the
\nmaterial or financial benefit of a for-profit entity.\u201d
\nAdditionally, the suit offers that the construction of the UFC
\nstage required congressional approval that was not sought. It also
\nsuggests that the required environmental impact review to build
\nthis arena in this location was not run.<\/p>\n

The White House had a short response shrugging off the suit,
\npositing that it was no more than obstructionism. In it, the White
\nHouse remarked that this UFC show would be \u201cno different than the
\nvarious other White House-hosted events on the South Lawn and
\nproperly permitted events on the Ellipse and National Mall
\nthroughout the year.\u201d<\/p>\n
