Derrick
\nLewis<\/a> has been dealing with a health issue for a long time.<\/p>\n

Lewis is coming off a second-round stoppage loss against Waldo
\nCortes-Acosta<\/a> at UFC 324<\/a>
\nthis past January. \u201cThe Black Beast\u201d was seemingly just out of the
\nfight after a lousy slip while Cortes-Acosta rained down a barrage
\nof shots, forcing the referee to step in. Lewis recently revealed
\nthat he was dealing with back issues during the fight. While Lewis
\nweighed in at 263.5 pounds, he went up to 296 pounds on fight
\nnight, which triggered his persistent back issues. Lewis also
\nrevealed that his problem has forced him to pull out of fights at
\nthe last moment multiple times. Lewis told UFC on Paramount+:<\/p>\n

\u201cOne of my downfalls I\u2019ve had my whole career is always my back.
\nI\u2019ve been having back issues; I believe that it really got down,
\ndown, down. My last fight I cut a lot of weight. I didn\u2019t walk
\naround to where I usually fight at. Right after I made weight, I
\nwent all the way back up to 296 [pounds]. I gained way too much
\nweight way too fast, so it hurt me in my last fight. I had back
\nissues the whole time. Also one of the reasons I pulled out of a
\nlot of my fights before, the day of the fight, is because I gained
\nthat weight back.\u201d<\/p>\n

Lewis (29-13) has pulled out of bouts on a day\u2019s notice on three
\noccasions in the UFC. Lewis is now scheduled to fight Josh Hokit<\/a>
\n(9-0) at
\nUFC White House: Freedom 250<\/a> on June 14. The undefeated Hokit
\nis coming off a decision win over Curtis
\nBlaydes<\/a>, which is the first time he has gone the distance in
\nhis career.<\/p>\n
