Tom
\nAspinall<\/a>\u2019s relationship with the
\nUltimate Fighting Championship<\/a> may not be as sour as some
\nthink.<\/p>\n

UFC heavyweight champion Aspinall (15-3) is currently sidelined due
\nto eye injuries suffered in his title defense against Ciryl Gane<\/a>
\n(13-2) last year. Gane is now scheduled to fight Alex
\nPereira<\/a> (13-3) for an interim heavyweight title in the
\nco-headliner at
\nUFC White House: Freedom 250<\/a> on June 14.<\/p>\n

Dana White recently revealed that if Aspinall was fit, he would
\nhave defended his title against Pereira at the White House, leaving
\nGane out of the picture.<\/p>\n

\u201c100% [Aspinall vs. Pereira] would have been the fight if he was
\nfit,\u201d White told UFC on TNT Sports. \u201cA lot of our champions are
\nhurt right now. There\u2019s a lot of things you have to deal with when
\nyou\u2019re making these matches, with timing and everything else going
\non in everyone\u2019s life, injuries. But yeah, it would have been
\nTom.\u201d<\/p>\n

Aspinall\u2019s first title defense ended in an unfortunate no-contest
\nafter Gane simultaneously poked him in both eyes in the very first
\nround of their UFC 320<\/a>
\nclash last October. White initially seemed disappointed with
\nAspinall for not continuing with compromised vision. White said
\nAspinall looked like he didn\u2019t want to be in there and also
\ndownplayed his eye surgery as \u201cinjections.\u201d Aspinall also publicly
\nslammed White\u2019s comments and subsequently signed with the
\nmanagement of Eddie Hearn, who is a known rival of the UFC head
\nhoncho. Hearn recently said that he will do his best to not let
\nAspinall fight under his current UFC contract.<\/p>\n
