\nUFC White House: Freedom 250<\/a> won\u2019t be the first time that
\nSteve
\nGarcia<\/a> has fought outdoors.<\/p>\n

Garcia (19-5) is scheduled to open the iconic UFC White House card
\nin a featherweight tilt against Diego Lopes<\/a>
\n(27-8) on June 14. Fighters, pundits and even UFC boss Dana White
\nhave expressed various concerns about the promotion\u2019s first outdoor
\nevent.<\/p>\n

Garcia, speaking from experience, recently listed his concerns
\nabout fighting in the Octagon that will be set up on the South Lawn
\nof the White House. Garcia has fought outdoors twice in his career
\nbefore. The first time was at night, where he had to face a common
\nissue — bugs. Many, including White, have expressed concerns about
\ninsects at the UFC White House event. Garcia\u2019s first outdoor event,
\nbeing an amateur one, he also had to deal with lighting issues.<\/p>\n

However, Garcia had to weather a more serious issue in his second
\noutdoor event, which was also his professional debut in 2013.
\nGarcia says that the cage was unbearably hot and ice had to be
\nrepeatedly thrown on the mat as fighters were burning their feet.
\nThe ice then had to be wiped off as fighters kept slipping. Garcia
\nnotes that even worse was that fighters could feel their backs
\nburning whenever they were in the bottom position on the canvas.
\nGarcia is concerned about how well the Octagon will be covered at
\nthe UFC White House event.<\/p>\n

\u201cI’ve fought outdoors twice… The first outdoor fight was at
\nnight, I dealt with the bugs, it was back in my amateur days; all
\nthe lights in the back had to get shifted forward to the Octagon,
\nand we had no lights in the back to warm up\u2026 But it wasn\u2019t
\nterrible,\u201d Garcia told Ariel Helwani. \u201cThe second time was
\ndefinitely hotter, probably around 85 degrees. We fought at the
\nState Fair grounds in Albuquerque; it was my pro debut. They had to
\ncontinue to throw ice on the canvas. That’s probably the only thing
\nI’m a little nervous about\u2014how well the Octagon is covered. because
\nit got so hot that everybody was burning their feet. They were
\ndumping tubs of ice all over the canvas, and then they had to sweep
\nit up so nobody would slip and fall. It was a little crazy. If you
\nwere on your back in guard or something, you were burning your
\nback. That’s definitely not a fun way to fight. But I’ve had a few
\nexperiences fighting outdoors.\u201d<\/p>\n

\nGarcia<\/a> shares the one concern he has about fighting outdoors
\nbased on his past experiences:<\/p>\n

“I’ve fought outdoors twice… The first outdoor fight was at
