\nProfessional Fighters League<\/a> CEO John Martin is trying to build
\na brand that is not dependent on a single fighter.<\/p>\n

PFL lightweight champion Usman
\nNurmagomedov<\/a> (21-0) will look to defend his title against
\nfellow undefeated fighter Archie
\nColgan<\/a> (13-0) on July 31 at UBS Arena in Long Island, New York.
\nThis is the last fight on the current contract of Nurmagomedov.<\/p>\n

Martin recently revealed that the PFL hasn\u2019t talked to Nurmagomedov
\nyet about the renewal of his contract. Martin wants to see how
\nthings play out after Nurmagomedov\u2019s fight against Colgan. While
\nMartin would love for Nurmagomedov to continue with the PFL, he is
\nnot too bothered about the concept of a longtime lightweight
\nchampion going elsewhere. Martin believes that, like the
\nUltimate Fighting Championship<\/a>, PFL should prioritise its brand
\nover any single athlete. Martin is looking to build a system where
\nthey can build multiple stars under the PFL brand.<\/p>\n

\u201cFor Nurmagomedov, his legacy is clear,\u201d Martin told Home of Fight.
\n\u201cHe is a fantastic champion\u2026 This is his last fight under the
\nagreement. We haven\u2019t engaged in any discussions with him yet.
\nLet\u2019s get through the fight and see what he wants to do. He\u2019s a
\ngreat part of the PFL. We love having him here. And if it makes
\nsense for us to keep him, and he wants to do it, we\u2019d love to have
\nhim stay. We just have to wait and see what happens. If he really
\nwants to go off and go somewhere else, then we\u2019ll have to deal with
\nthat, too. In our job and in our position, and it\u2019s something the
\nUFC has done brilliantly throughout the years, is that the brand
\nreally has to be first and foremost. Then you have a portfolio of
\nfighters and an ecosystem of finding the next great star early in
\ntheir career. And I think we\u2019ve got a number of those really
\nexciting young fighters coming up. And then you try to create stars
\nand then keep them for as long as you can, as long as it makes
\nsense. But there\u2019s no one star or two stars that will effectively
\nrepresent the entire organization.\u201d<\/p>\n
