The
\nUltimate Fighting Championship<\/a> could use a little more
\ntransparency.<\/p>\n

In a backstage interview ahead of
\nUFC Freedom 250<\/a>, former two-division champ Alex
\nPereira<\/a> spoke with fellow ex-two weight class kingpin Daniel
\nCormier<\/a>, with Pereira\u2019s coach Plinio Cruz<\/a>
\ntranslating. During their conversation, the subject of the World
\nCup came up, as Cruz was sporting the Brazilian national football
\nteam\u2019s shirt. The most successful team in FIFA World Cup history,
\nBrazil is matched in Group C against Morocco, Haiti and Scotland
\nwithin the next few weeks.<\/p>\n

North America will play host to the World Cup this year, with
\nMexico and Canada sharing sites with the U.S. to run the matches.
\nTaking advantage of the atmosphere, \u201cDC\u201d suggested a bet to the
\nBrazilian on which team would go further in the competition: the
\nU.S. or Brazil.<\/p>\n

How about $20K<\/h2>\n

Whether swept up in the moment, overly enthusiastic to be leading
\nup to the big tentpole show or genuinely filled with national pride
\nfor his football team, Cormier initially offered $5,000 to the
\nwinner. Pereira, with a smile on his face, raised to $20,000.
\nCormier balked at the offered increase, while blurting out how much
\nmoney \u201cPoatan\u201d is expected to make competing at this event.<\/p>\n

\u201cHold on,\u201d Cormier responded to Pereira\u2019s push to $20K, and then
\nrepeated it. \u201cI\u2019m not making $10 million to fight at the White
\nHouse.\u201d<\/p>\n

Pereira did not push back at Cormier\u2019s reveal on a number that
\nlikely would have otherwise remained private. Instead, he flashed a
\nsmile and agreed to meet Cormier at $10,000 to the victor. They
\nmade sure to stipulate, the winner donates that amount to the
\ncharity of their choice.<\/p>\n

\u201cPoatan\u201d will vie for the interim heavyweight strap against
\nCiryl
\nGane<\/a> in an effort to make promotional history. Depending on the
\nclassification of One Championship<\/a> in 2024, it can be argued that
\nAnatoly
\nMalykhin<\/a> served as the first three-division champion for a
\nmajor organization, doing so at 205, 225 and 265 pounds. Regardless
\nof One, Pereira has a chance to become the first beltholder across
\nthree separate weight categories in the UFC on Sunday.<\/p>\n
