\nGarcia<\/a> on Sunday. Lopes successfully made the non-title limit
\nof 146 pounds for his matchup against Garcia. <\/p>\n

However, Lopes reappeared at the weigh-ins to step on the scale for
\nanother weight class. Lopes later successfully weighed in at 154
\npounds as the backup fighter for the lightweight title fight
\nbetween Ilia
\nTopuria<\/a> and Justin
\nGaethje<\/a>. The Brazilian reveals that he contacted Hunter
\nCampbell when he heard that the originally planned backup fighter,
\nArman
\nTsarukyan<\/a>, wouldn\u2019t be weighing in. Campbell gave the green
\nlight to Lopes, who stands a chance at a lightweight title shot if
\nany of the main event fighters are forced out for some
\nreason.

An Opportunistic Weigh-in<\/h2>\n

\u201cWhen I saw Arman pull out as the backup for the fight, I texted
\nHunter and said, \u2018If you need me, I can serve as the backup,\u201d Lopes
\ntold UFC on TNT Sports. \u201cI got one hour to increase my
\nweight.\u2019  He said, \u2018You sure? Yeah. If you want to do this, go
\nahead.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

This is not the first time that Lopes (27-8) has stepped in to save
\nthe day for the UFC. Lopes made his UFC debut in 2023 on a few
\ndays\u2019 notice against Movsar
\nEvloev<\/a>, suffering a hard-fought decision loss. Lopes also made
\na two-month turnaround on two weeks\u2019 notice for UFC 303, where he
\naccepted a change of opponent on hours\u2019 notice. <\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Tsarukyan continues to be sidelined from the UFC
\nlightweight title picture despite being widely considered the top
\ncontender. \u201cAhalkalakets\u201d chose a wrestling match against Tony
\nFerguson<\/a> at RAF 10 over weighing-in as the backup fighter for
\nthe UFC White House headliner. <\/p>\n
