\u201cEl Matador\u201d relinquished the lightweight crown to Gaethje in the

\nUFC White House<\/a> headliner on Sunday night, falling to his
\nAmerican adversary via fourth-round technical knockout when his
\ncorner waved off the fight. After looking nearly invincible for the
\nmajority of his professional tenure, Topuria was bloodied and
\nbattered by one of the sport\u2019s most respected veterans.<\/p>\n

The Georgian-Spaniard acknowledged as much in a post on
\nInstagram.<\/p>\n

\u201cJustin, congratulations. You said you\u2019d leave your mark on my
\nface\u2026 and you did,\u201d Topuria wrote. \u201cYou took the sight from my
\nright eye in the first round, and by the end of the second, from my
\nleft too.<\/p>\n

\u201cNo excuses. I had one of the best camps of my life. I came in
\nsharp, prepared, and ready. Last night was your night. That\u2019s the
\nnature of this game. Glory and pain walk side by side.\u201d<\/p>\n

Another Chapter Yet to Come?<\/h2>\n

Topuria emerged as one of the
\nUFC<\/a>\u2019s biggest stars during a run that saw him win his first
\nnine promotional outings. During that run, he captured both
\nfeatherweight and lightweight gold \u2014 finishing Alexander
\nVolkanovski<\/a>, Max
\nHolloway<\/a> and Charles
\nOliveira<\/a> in his last three bouts prior to Sunday night. A
\nvictory over Gaethje might have sent Topuria to the welterweight
\ndivision in pursuit of a third belt and a matchup with Islam
\nMakhachev<\/a>. Instead, \u201cEl Matador\u201d appears to be targeting a
\nrematch with Gaethje down the road.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ll heal. I\u2019ll rest. And I\u2019ll return stronger, wiser, and far
\nmore dangerous,\u201d Topuria wrote. \u201cAnd trust me\u2026 this story between
\nus is far from over. We will have our rematch.\u201d<\/p>\n
