Diego
\nLopes<\/a> received game-changing advice from one of his cornermen
\nat the White House.<\/p>\n

Lopes opened
\nUFC Freedom 250<\/a> against Steve
\nGarcia<\/a> (19-6) at the White House on Sunday. While the opening
\nround was closely contested, Lopes believes he might have been
\nbehind on the scorecards. However, Lopes dropped Garcia with a
\nmassive left hand midway through Round 2 before finishing him with
\nground-and-pound. <\/p>\n

Lopes subsequently revealed that he received the fight-ending
\nadvice from
\nUFC<\/a> flyweight Alessandro
\nCosta<\/a>, who was in his corner. Costa told Lopes to step back
\nwhen Garcia landed on him the first time. Costa then told Lopes to
\nstand ground on the second connection and counter with a
\nthree-punch combination. Lopes paid heed to Costa\u2019s advice and
\ndropped Garcia with the third punch of his combination.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe whole credit I give to my brother, Alessandro,\u201d Lopes said in
\na post-fight interview with the UFC. \u201cHe told me, \u2018Hey, he connects
\nyou, you step back, the second time you stay and hit him with three
\npunches.\u2019 When I hit him, I missed the first one, I missed the
\nsecond one, I connected with No. 3. All thanks to Allesandro. He
\ndid a great job in the corner.\u201d <\/p>\n

Costa is currently on a two-fight finishing streak. \u201cNono\u201d was
\nhelping Lopes in camp when he received the call for a short-notice
\nfight against Matt
\nSchnell<\/a>. Costa made a turnaround of two months to knock Schnell
\nout last weekend. Costa had also hoped that his momentum would
\ncarry over to Lopes for the White House fight.<\/p>\n

Moving on Up<\/h2>\n

Lopes (28-8) is now eyeing a move up to lightweight, even if
\ntemporary, to let his body recover. While Lopes will stay put at
\nfeatherweight if the UFC wants him to, the Brazilian admits that he
\nwill have to compromise on the food that he loves.<\/p>\n

\u201cI just need to talk with the UFC,\u201d Lopes said. \u201cI want to move to
\n155 [pounds] for a couple of fights. To fulfill my body. But if the
\nUFC want me to stay at 145, I need to be more disciplined with my
\ndiet again. I need to stay. But I love food. I want to move to 155\u2026
\nI\u2019m healthy, I have no injuries, I hope the UFC can book another
\nfight for me soon. If it is at 155, I\u2019m going to prove I can fight
\nat that weight class.\u201d <\/p>\n
