\nUFC<\/a> didn\u2019t want him to return to competition at
\nwelterweight. <\/p>\n

McGregor (22-6) returns from a five-year hiatus in a welterweight
\ntilt against Max
\nHolloway<\/a> (27-9) at UFC 329<\/a>
\non July 11 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. There were brief
\nrumors of McGregor potentially returning against surging
\nwelterweight contender Carlos
\nPrates<\/a>.<\/p>\n

McGregor recently confirmed that Prates had indeed been suggested
\nto him as an opponent. \u201cNotorious\u201d claims he verbally accepted a
\nmatchup against Prates. However, McGregor claims he didn\u2019t receive
\nany contract after accepting the booking. McGregor believes the UFC
\nwanted him to return at lightweight. According to McGregor, the UFC
\nbrass was suggesting tough matchups for him to scare him away from
\nthe welterweight division.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey said to me about [Prates],\u201d McGregor said on “The Ariel Helwani Show.\u201d<\/a> \u201cI said, \u2018Yeah, no
\nproblem. Send the contract.\u2019 So I\u2019m saying yeah for about two
\nweeks. Where\u2019s the contract? No contract came. Do you know what it
\nwas? They wanted me back down at 155 pounds.\u201d<\/p>\n

McGregor has competed twice at welterweight in the UFC. Meanwhile,
\nPrates (24-7) has finished all seven of his UFC wins while only
\ndropping a decision against Ian Garry<\/a>.
\n\u201cThe Nightmare\u201d made a legitimate case for a title shot with a
\nbrutal knockout win over former champ Jack
\nDella Maddalena<\/a> this past May. <\/p>\n
