\nRodriguez<\/a>\u2019s late coach, Duke Roufus, taught him the move that
\nhelped him finish Hyder
\nAmil<\/a>. <\/p>\n

Rodriguez (13-4) took on Amil (11-3) in a featherweight matchup at
\n
\nUFC Fight Night 279<\/a> on Saturday in Las Vegas. \u201cCeeRod\u201d dropped
\nAmil with a flush shin-to-chin head kick in the opening round.
\nWhile Amil miraculously remained conscious, Rodriguez immediately
\nchoked him out cold with a guillotine. <\/p>\n

Rodriguez revealed that the head kick was always a staple move
\nwhile training under his late coach.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy coach who passed away in October, his name was Duke Roufus, he
\nwas a kickboxing legend,\u201d Rodriguez said in a post-fight interview
\nwith the
\nUFC<\/a>. \u201cHe was known for head kicks\u2026 When people kind of start
\ndefending like a boxer, the head kick will always be there. And it
\nworked out perfectly. It\u2019s something that he passed on to me, and I
\nstill have that knowledge. So, that\u2019s something we capitalized
\non.\u201d<\/p>\n

Feeling Rejuventated<\/h2>\n

Rodriguez\u2019s win over Amil saw him rebound from back-to-back losses,
\nwhich was also the only time he lost two fights in a row in his
\ncareer. After Roufus\u2019 demise this past October, Rodriguez moved to
\n
\nXtreme Couture<\/a> in Las Vegas to train under the tutelage of Eric
\nNicksick. Rodriguez\u2019s win on Saturday also marked his return to
\naction after a 10-month hiatus. Rodriguez believes the time off
\nchanged him as a person while renewing his love for the sport.<\/p>\n

\u201cI want to stay active,\u201d Rodriguez said. \u201cI missed the sport so
\nmuch; it\u2019s been a long 10 months. But I feel like the time away
\ndefinitely made me into a different person. It\u2019s definitely brought
\nthe love for the sport again for me.\u201d <\/p>\n
