Joining the UFC in 2006 at UFC 63, Joe Lauzon<\/a>
\n(28-15) debuted against Jens Pulver<\/a>
\nand put him away in 48 seconds. Rather than advance in the unstable
\nlightweight division\u2014the weight class would not have a stable title
\npicture until B.J. Penn<\/a> claimed
\nthe throne from Joe Stevenson<\/a>
\nat UFC 80 in 2008\u2014Lauzon elected to join the massively popular
\nreality series of \u201cThe Ultimate Fighter.\u201d \u201cJ-Lau\u201d competed in its
\nfifth season, picked up by Team Penn against Team Pulver, coached
\nby a man he knocked out not long before.<\/p>\n

While he never managed to vie for a lightweight championship,
\nLauzon kept himself in the contendership picture as an all-action
\nfigure that could all-but guarantee post-fight bonus money. The
\nMassachusetts native amassed a whopping 15 bonus checks over the
\nyears, including a double-bonus performance when he tapped Jamie Varner<\/a>
\nin 2012 to earn both \u201cFight of the Night\u201d and \u201cPerformance of the
\nNight.\u201d On the heels of a three-fight losing streak built in 2017
\nand 2018, Lauzon broke out of that slump by acing Jonathan
\nPearce<\/a> in 93 seconds in front of a home crowd.<\/p>\n

Time to say goodbye\u2026?<\/h2>\n

The 42-year-old from Brockton, Massachusetts, and former IT
\nprofessional was matched against Donald
\nCerrone<\/a> in 2022 in what could have been a double retirement
\nbout, but an illness to Cerrone and knee injury to Lauzon scuttled
\ntheir booking and rebooking. Lauzon claimed that he was comfortable
\ngoing off into the sunset following his knockout of \u201cJSP,\u201d but that
\nthe \u201cright fight\u201d could drag him off the couch again. He remained
\nin the drug testing pool in case he wanted to come back, but that
\nopportunity never came.<\/p>\n

Whether due to the contract lapsing or because he sought his actual
\nrelease, Lauzon is no longer a member of the UFC. Per the organization<\/a> on
\nFriday, Lauzon has signed with Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship,
\nand he is expected to appear at BKFC 92 at Fenway Park in Boston on
\nAug. 29. The main attraction of that show will put the
\nfeatherweight belt on the line as Kai Stewart<\/a>
\ndefends against local athlete Harry
\nGigliotti<\/a>.<\/p>\n
