Rafael
\nFiziev<\/a> would never have become a
\nUFC<\/a> standout striker had his job as a police officer not gone
\nsouth. <\/p>\n

Born to an Azerbaijani father and a Russian mother, Fiziev (14-5)
\nwas mostly raised in Kyrgyzstan. Fiziev dreamed of becoming a
\nKyrgyz police officer and successfully graduated from the police
\nacademy. However, Fiziev\u2019s expectations were shattered from the
\nvery beginning of his job. Fiziev claims that academically less
\nsuccessful people got better positions by paying bribes, while he
\nwas made to serve parking tickets. Fiziev\u2019s original goal was to
\nfight the drug mafia. When Fiziev saw the alleged corruption in the
\npolice force, he left within a couple of months to pursue a
\nprofessional career in MMA.<\/p>\n

Corruption and Changing Course<\/h2>\n

\u201cI went to work and saw all of this bulls\u2014t in the Kyrgyzstan
\npolice,\u201d Fiziev said on “The
\nAriel Helwani Show\u201d<\/a> \u201cZero justice\u2014100% corruption. I said,
\n\u2018What the f\u2014k? I don’t want to be here.\u2019… It was my dream to
\nstand against the mafia and drug dealers. When I finished academy,
\nI wanted to be in position where I could fight drug dealers. But
\nthey put me in a s\u2014t position. And the people who didn\u2019t study well
\njust paid money to be in good positions. I studied hard. I tried to
\nbecome a smart, good officer. But because of corruption\u2014and because
\nI have blue eyes and white skin\u2014they wouldn’t put me in a good
\nposition\u2026 I dreamed about being a police officer for 10 years. Then
\nI got there and saw how it really worked. Instead of fighting
\ncrime, I was writing parking tickets. I said, \u2018F\u2014 it. I’m done.\u2019 If
\nthat hadn’t happened, I would’ve been a full-time police officer.
\nOne hundred percent.\u201d<\/p>\n

Fiziev took on Manuel
\nTorres<\/a> in Baku, Azerbaijan, last weekend. Fiziev’s vision was
\ncompromised by a jab from Torres late in the first round. However,
\n\u201cAtaman\u201d knocked Torres out 15 seconds into the second round with a
\nhighlight-reel spinning back kick that sent the crowd into a
\nfrenzy. <\/p>\n
