Pereira (13-4) looked to create history by winning a third
\nUltimate Fighting Championship<\/a> title when he fought Ciryl Gane<\/a>
\nfor interim heavyweight gold at
\nUFC Freedom 250<\/a> last month. However, Gane stopped Pereira in
\nthe second round.<\/p>\n

In the immediate aftermath of Pereira\u2019s loss, Jones (28-1) shared a
\nvideo of himself sporting a GOAT necklace, drawing backlash for
\nkicking Pereira while he was down. Even \u201cPoatan\u201d was surprised by
\nJones\u2019 post, considering they have only shared mutual respect in
\nthe past.<\/p>\n

Jones recently clarified that the video wasn\u2019t aimed at Pereira.
\n\u201cBones\u201d recalls the Brazilian paying tribute to his late brother,
\nArthur Jones, after his death last October, and claims he has
\nnothing but respect for Pereira.<\/p>\n

He explained that his post was directed at those who claimed
\nPereira would be the MMA GOAT if he defeated Gane to win a
\nchampionship in a third weight class. Jones, who is widely
\nconsidered among the greatest fighters of all time, says that his
\nvideo was a message to his haters.<\/p>\n

He told Red Corner MMA: \u201cI wish Alex all the best though. After my
\nbrother died, Pereira came out and had a moment of silence for my
\nbrother. And I respect that very, very dearly. And after the fight
\nI made a video that went viral. It was a video of me with a GOAT
\nnecklace on. It felt like an attack to Alex. And I wanna say it
\nhere that I meant no disrespect to Alex. A lot of people, before
\nthe fight, were saying that if Alex wins he is the greatest of all
\ntime. And my little video after Alex\u2019s loss was a message to all my
\nhaters. It wasn\u2019t directed towards Alex. So I wanna make that very
\nclear. I have nothing but respect for Alex.\u201d<\/p>\n

While he didn\u2019t name names, Dana White had claimed that Pereira
\nwould be considered the GOAT with a victory over Gane. Jones is
\namidst a fallout with the UFC after failing to secure a spot on the
\nWhite House card.<\/p>\n
