Dustin
\nPoirier<\/a> has shared intimate details about his father\u2019s
\nstruggles with alcoholism and its influence on him.<\/p>\n

Poirier (30-10) was recently arrested at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta
\nInternational Airport for public drunkenness. While the former
\n
\nUltimate Fighting Championship<\/a> star was traveling to South
\nFlorida, he started drinking during the layover in Atlanta. He was
\nthen denied entry to his flight, following which he uttered a
\nracial slur and threatened to fight a police officer, got arrested
\nand was later released on bail.<\/p>\n

He recently revealed that the alcohol binge that led to the arrest
\nwas partly triggered by memories of his father. \u201cThe Diamond\u201d
\nclaims his father has been a lifelong victim of alcohol addiction,
\nwhich led to estrangement from friends and family.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s ruined his marriages; he\u2019s ruined his relationships, his
\nfriendships. He\u2019s ruined his relationship with his kids,\u201d Poirier
\nsaid on \u201cThe Diary of a CEO\u201d podcast. \u201cMy little brother is kind of
\noff and on talking to him, but he has two kids that don\u2019t speak to
\nhim at all. And won\u2019t. He\u2019s been in jail plenty of times for
\nalcohol related stuff. If I could paint a picture, what you think
\nof a classic drunk or alcoholic. Very selfish and continues to go
\nback to it.\u201d<\/p>\n

How Dustin Poirier says his father’s alcoholism and Father’s
\nDay memories led to the airport incident<\/h2>\n

Despite Poirier\u2019s efforts to help, his father is shockingly
\nhomeless now. While he knows he\u2019s not responsible for his father\u2019s
\nplight, the former UFC lightweight just couldn\u2019t help pondering
\nover it while traveling on Father\u2019s Day, leading to his altercation
\nand arrest at the airport.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe is actually homeless right now. Part of that, me getting in
\ntrouble at the airport was\u2026 It\u2019s not my weight to carry. I tried to
\nhelp him out and he is back on the street,\u201d he added. \u201cIt is almost
\nas if he doesn\u2019t want help. On Father\u2019s Day, I was travelling to
\nwork, and I just couldn\u2019t stop thinking about my father. And I
\nstarted drinking at the airport, and that\u2019s kind of what led to the
\nincident.\u201d<\/p>\n
