\nMcGregor<\/a> has chimed in on the struggles former opponent
\nDustin
\nPoirier<\/a> is facing, but not like most may have expected.<\/p>\n

During a Thursday appearance on Smash Cast<\/a> with
\nhosts Chael Sonnen<\/a>
\nand Ian Parker, McGregor appeared to discuss a litany of subject.
\nIn the show, he discusses topics like how he feels competing back
\nat welterweight, whether he will ever meet Floyd
\nMayweather<\/a> in the boxing ring again and his former opponents.
\nNotably, the subject of Poirier came up, a man McGregor faced three
\ntimes and ended up losing the trilogy match to in 2021.<\/p>\n

Poirier, now retired, has been open with his struggles keeping
\nhimself focused and on task now that he is no longer training to
\nprepare for mutual unarmed combat. In an
\noft-discussed video<\/a>, Poirier was filmed heavily intoxicated at
\nthe Hartsfield-Jackson Airport in Atlanta in late June and arrested
\nfor the misdemeanor of public drunkenness.<\/p>\n

I hope he comes out right<\/h2>\n

Sonnen asked McGregor directly about Poirier\u2019s incident during the
\nshow. Before responding, the Irishman sharply inhaled and collected
\nhis thoughts.<\/p>\n

\u201cKarma is a mirror,\u201d McGregor expressed. \u201cIt\u2019s not good to see. If
\nI was to say something to him, I would say: take this with absolute
\nseriousness. Do not engage with people. \u2018Oh,\u2019 there\u2019s people [that
\nwould say], \u2018it was funny, I like him more,\u2019 and you see [them]\nstart laughing about it and maybe you wonder, \u2018maybe it wasn\u2019t so
\nbad. Maybe I\u2019ll keep going.\u2019 And then the next one\u2019s worse, and
\nthen you slip deeper and deeper.\u201d<\/p>\n

It would not be McGregor if he did not slip in a barb or two, as he
\njabbed Poirier for his post-retirement appearance and
\nadmission that he can now recover properly by taking
\nperformance-enhancing drugs<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo, I would say, take this with the absolute seriousness,\u201d he
\nremarked. \u201cFunny enough, I spoke with [UFC broadcaster] Megan
\nOlivi, they asked me\u2014not on this, it hadn\u2019t happened yet. But they
\nwere asking me about Dustin and I\u2019d say, \u2018For him to retire and go
\non steroids for no reason, I found that stupid. And then also, his
\nbody didn\u2019t look any different\u2026alarm belts went off in my [head],
\nand I thought [he should] take [his transgressions] with absolute
\nseriousness. Because, you don\u2019t want to slip further and further.
\nHe obviously has to take accountability; I\u2019ve seen something that
\ncame out [where he] blames his father. You have to [take]\naccountability [as] a man, that\u2019s it.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cNotorious\u201d finished, saying, \u201cIt\u2019s not my business. And for the
\nsake of his family and children, and his new child born, I hope he
\ncomes right.\u201d<\/p>\n
