\nfollowing the anticlimactic loss to Max
\nHolloway<\/a> at
\nUFC 329<\/a>.<\/p>\n

McGregor suffered a knee injury seconds into his rematch with
\nHolloway. He then wasn\u2019t able to find stability and repeatedly fell
\nwhile attempting strikes, prompting the referee to stop the bout.
\nWith the Irishman\u2019s last two main events ending in unfortunate
\ninjuries, Sonnen questions whether he can headline another
\ncard.<\/p>\n

\u2018You cannot main event him\u2019: Chael Sonnen on Conor
\nMcGregor<\/h2>\n

In McGregor\u2019s last outing prior to UFC 329, he suffered a leg break
\nin his trilogy fight against Dustin
\nPoirier<\/a> in 2021. A lengthy stint on the sidelines ensued before
\nthe Holloway rematch came together. According to Sonnen, there were
\nno takeaways from the former two-division champ\u2019s return.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was one of these things where there was nothing to take away
\nfrom it,\u201d Sonnen told MMA Junkie<\/a> after the fight. \u201cThere
\nwas no redeemable quality. I think Conor mentally was in the right
\nspot, but the contest is physical.\u201d<\/p>\n

Sonnen then outlined other examples of big stars on losing streaks
\nlooking to headline upon their returns, including Chuck
\nLiddell<\/a>, Brock
\nLesnar<\/a> and Anderson
\nSilva<\/a>. He claims UFC CEO Dana
\nWhite<\/a> might not be keen on another McGregor main event.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf you were to take [a serious injury] away, if we were to say, ‘Boy, we got lucky, in fact, a step further, the [doctor]\nmisdiagnosed this, he’s completely fine.’ We don’t see him fight
\nagain,\u201d Sonnen added. \u201cYou cannot main event him. You cannot
\nrepackage and sell this story, nor would they be interested. Chuck
\nLiddell was very close friends with Dana White. Brock Lesnar just
\nwanted to do it again. Anderson Silva said, ‘Hey, put me in one
\nmore time.’ Dana does not give back on that.\u201d<\/p>\n
