\nMakhachev<\/a>‘s coach, Javier Mendez, claims his pupil is open to a
\nfight against Max
\nHolloway<\/a>.<\/p>\n

This comes after Holloway\u2019s win at
\nUFC 329<\/a>, where he faced Conor
\nMcGregor<\/a> at welterweight. \u201cBlessed\u201d emerged victorious, albeit
\nwith their rematch ending in anticlimactic fashion as McGregor
\nsuffered an early injury. Mendez believes that neither Makhachev
\nnor Holloway would refuse a matchup against the other.<\/p>\n

Javier Mendez discusses a potential Islam Makhachev vs. Max
\nHolloway UFC matchup after UFC 329<\/h2>\n

Ahead of his UFC 329 bout on July 11, Holloway expressed his desire
\nto fight Makhachev. Despite being beaten and thoroughly outgrappled
\nby Charles
\nOliveira<\/a> earlier this year, Mendez knows that Holloway will not
\nstop pursuing a fight with the current 170-pound king. He also
\nbelieves that his fighter would not back down from the challenge if
\nUFC pushes for it.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhatever the UFC wants to do, Islam\u2019s going to say yes and Max is
\na legend and he doesn\u2019t back down from anybody\u2026 You can\u2019t cross Max
\nout in any competition because he\u2019s game,\u201d Mendez told Submission
\nRadio. \u201cWhether he does well or not, well, I don\u2019t know. But he\u2019s
\ngame for it, so you can\u2019t ever cross him out. He\u2019s got the mind of
\na warrior and the mindset of a champion, so he\u2019s up for any
\nchallenge, I feel.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u2018I wanted that fight\u2019: Javier Mendez on potential Conor
\nMcGregor fight for Islam Makhachev<\/h2>\n

A McGregor victory could have strengthened the possibility of a
\nfuture bout between the Irishman and Makhachev, but that matchup is
\nnow highly unlikely. The
\nAmerican Kickboxing Academy<\/a> coach further expressed that he was
\ndisappointed with the result of UFC 329\u2019s headliner.<\/p>\n

\u201cBummer. I mean, I wanted that fight because, look, listen, we as
\ncoaches, we live for those moments to have an opportunity to be
\nwith something like that, that magnitude,\u201d Mendez said. \u201cI\u2019ve been
\nfortunate enough to have quite a few of them, so to have another
\nmega fight like that around the corner, potentially, that would
\nhave been a great honor.\u201d<\/p>\n
