Dricus Du
\nPlessis<\/a> has opened up about his lone loss in the
\nUltimate Fighting Championship<\/a>, which came against Khamzat
\nChimaev<\/a> at
\nUFC 319<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The former UFC middleweight champion admitted that he spent his
\ntraining camp preparing for fast-paced scrambles, only for Chimaev
\nto adopt a far more conservative approach, which ultimately threw
\nhim off.<\/p>\n

Dricus du Plessis revisits defeat to Khamzat Chimaev: \u2018There
\nwas no scramble\u2019<\/h2>\n

The South African lost to Chimaev in August of last year, giving up
\nnearly 22 minutes of ground control time to \u201cBorz.\u201d Moreover,
\nChimaev followed the same pattern in every round: putting du
\nPlessis into the crucifix position and occasionally landing short
\nstrikes from top position. Speaking to Submission Radio, “Stillknocks” explained how his opponent\u2019s grappling approach took
\nhim by surprise.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt’s a style thing. The way he moved, it’s something that I
\nhaven’t seen, haven’t felt, and it wasn’t a strength problem at
\nall,\u201d du Plessis said. \u201cIt was just a way that he could get it to a
\nplace where we were static. There was no scramble.\u201d<\/p>\n

He also revealed that during his training camp, his team focused on
\npreparing for the relentless, fast-paced, and aggressive grappling
\nthreats that have defined Chimaev\u2019s previous fights.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s what I was preparing for because if you look at all of his
\nother fights, that exciting, let\u2019s go, going for a choke, he didn\u2019t
\ngo for one submission,\u201d he added. \u201cThat was what we prepared for,
\nand he was just like, \u2018Cool, let\u2019s just lie here and steal people\u2019s
\nmoney.’\u201d<\/p>\n
