Ankalaev was originally scheduled to headline
\nUFC Abu Dhabi<\/a> on July 25 in a light heavyweight matchup against
\nKhalil
\nRountree<\/a>. However, Guskov stepped up on 14 days\u2019 notice to
\nreplace Rountree, who pulled out due to an injury.<\/p>\n

Bogdan Guskov explains why he immediately accepted the UFC Abu
\nDhabi main event against Magomed Ankalaev<\/h2>\n

Guskov (18-3) recently revealed that he took less than a minute to
\ngive his manager the nod to accept the booking against Ankalaev
\n(20-2). He wasn\u2019t the only fighter approached by the UFC to replace
\nRountree.<\/p>\n

Guskov was originally scheduled to fight Jan
\nBlachowicz<\/a> at
\nUFC Belgrade<\/a> on Aug. 1. Blachowicz revealed that the UFC had
\nalso offered him the short-notice booking against Ankalaev.
\nHowever, the former champion needed 24 hours to figure out whether
\nhe could make weight. The UFC decided to go ahead with Guskov
\ninstead of waiting for Blachowicz, who is now left without an
\nopponent.<\/p>\n

Paulo
\nCosta<\/a> also confirmed that he was approached by the UFC.
\nHowever, Costa didn\u2019t find the deal lucrative enough to take a
\n16-hour flight to Abu Dhabi to fight Ankalaev on 14 days\u2019 notice.
\nGuskov claims he knew from the outset that no one else would accept
\na short-notice booking against Ankalaev.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy manager called and said, \u2018We\u2019ve got an opportunity. I\u2019m not
\npushing you. I\u2019m not insisting on anything. Think it over for 24
\nhours and give me your answer.\u2019 We talked, I put the phone down,
\nand just 30 seconds later, I was like, \u2018What is there to think
\nabout?\u2019 I called him back right away, as there was nothing to think
\nabout,\u201d Guskov told Red Corner MMA. \u201cI don\u2019t need 24 hours to get
\nto the scales and find out whether I can make weight or not, as
\nsome other guys. Or the guy who needed a 16-hour flight\u2026 So
\neverybody turned it down. And I knew from the start that nobody
\nwould want to fight Magomed.\u201d<\/p>\n
