The former middleweight champion returns to action against

\nUFC Oklahoma City<\/a> main event on July 18, his first appearance
\nsince dropping the 185-pound championship to Khamzat
\nChimaev<\/a> at
\nUFC 319<\/a> last year. The defeat snapped an eight-year unbeaten
\nstreak dating back to a knockout loss during his time on
\nKSW<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Dricus Du Plessis reflects on losing the UFC middleweight title
\nand his return against Kamaru Usman<\/h2>\n

Ahead of his return to the Octagon nearly a year after his loss to
\nChimaev, du Plessis has opened up about losing his middleweight
\ncrown, revealing initial disappointment followed by a surge of
\nmotivation to regain the title.<\/p>\n

\u201cYeah, so I haven’t lost in quite some time — eight years — and I
\nkind of forgot how it felt,” du Plessis said in a recent interview.
\n\u201cNow, I know exactly why. I absolutely hate it. I hate losing; I
\nhate not being a champion. I’m a guy that’s the best in the world \u2014
\nI deserve a title. I have to have that title. When I lost it, it
\nmade me realize why I wanted to become champion in the first place
\nand why I will do it again.\u201d<\/p>\n

“Stillknocks” further admitted that the effects of the defeat
\nlingered well after the fight, but believes that’s part of being a
\nchampion.<\/p>\n

\u201cDealing with that loss, it stung for quite a while,” he added. “It
\nstung for a month after that fight. And if it didn’t sting like
\nthat, it would have been a problem — it means I didn’t appreciate
\nit. I’m a terrible loser, and I’ll prove that on Saturday.\u201d<\/p>\n
