Jared
\nCannonier<\/a> claims he has earned the right to get paid much more
\nthan the
\nUltimate Fighting Championship<\/a> is currently paying him.<\/p>\n

Cannonier is scheduled to fight at
\nUFC Oklahoma City<\/a> against Christian
\nLeroy Duncan<\/a> (14-2) in the co-main event. It will mark his 21st
\nOctagon outing, having competed in the UFC since 2015, across three
\ndifferent divisions. Considering how many fights he has in the
\npremier MMA promotion, he believes his compensation is below
\npar.<\/p>\n

Jared Cannonier discusses UFC fighter pay, sponsorship changes
\nand his middleweight career<\/h2>\n

Cannonier would love all MMA fighters to earn more in general.
\nHowever, “The Killa Gorilla” believes there are varying levels of
\nskill sets even in the UFC. Considering his own pedigree, Cannonier
\nbelieves he deserves a much better contract with the UFC.<\/p>\n

\u201cI would love to get paid more,\u201d Cannonier told Full Send MMA. \u201cI
\nwould love all of us MMA fighters to get paid more. But there is
\nbig differentiation in skill level, even in the UFC. I think the
\nUFC pays based on merit, how you perform, A, how you market
\nyourself, B. I would like to get paid as much as the
\nhighest-performing athletes in any sport get paid.\u201d<\/p>\n

Cannonier also notes that sponsorships have declined since the
\nUFC\u2019s policy change over a decade ago, further limiting financial
\nprospects for fighters. The 42-year-old believes he deserves much
\nmore than his current pay, considering he has been a perennial
\nmiddleweight contender for years now. While Cannonier says he isn\u2019t
\ncomplaining, he refuses to be silent when his opinion is
\nsought.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe used to get a bunch of sponsors; we still get sponsors, but the
\nchanging of the landscape changed that for us,\u201d the former title
\nchallenger added. \u201cAnd it didn\u2019t leave us with much of anything at
\nthe end. Fighters are definitely at the sh*t end of the stick of
\nthis whole business. I think I should have million-dollar
\ncontracts, not $100,000 contracts and stuff — at the stage that
\nI\u2019m in. I\u2019ve been top five, top ten for about seven to eight years.
\nI\u2019m not complaining, but this is definitely how I feel. I\u2019m not
\ngonna hold back my voice and my opinion.\u201d<\/p>\n
