Nearly a year after losing his middleweight belt to Khamzat
\nChimaev<\/a>, du Plessis returned to action in a five-rounder
\nagainst former welterweight champ Kamaru
\nUsman<\/a>, earning a lopsided unanimous decision win. The South
\nAfrican\u2019s return made him realize how much he loves and belongs in
\nthe sport.<\/p>\n

UFC champion Dricus Du Plessis explains his mindset after
\nbeating Kamaru Usman<\/h2>\n

“Stillknocks” was clearly on top in the opening two rounds, with
\nUsman finding his range in the third frame before du Plessis
\nregained his momentum in the fourth. Usman found a second wind in
\nthe final round, but it was too little too late for “The Nigerian
\nNightmare,\u201d who was on the wrong end of a 50-45, 49-46, 49-46
\nscorecard.<\/p>\n

Having spent 11 months on the sidelines coming off a loss, du
\nPlessis believes that one can forget what it\u2019s like inside the
\nOctagon during a lengthy hiatus. However, as soon as the fight
\ncommenced, he felt right at home.<\/p>\n

\u201cEspecially when you are away for that kind of time, you almost
\nforget what it\u2019s like to be there, dancing under the lights,\u201d du
\nPlessis said after the fight. \u201cBut man, tonight I just walked out
\nthere again and I realized\u2026 This is what I live with\u2026 This is what
\nthis is about\u2026 This is why I started this game. I loved going out
\nthere and fighting, but more than that, I loved competing.\u201d<\/p>\n

He further emphasized that the pressure he feels in front of
\nthousands of fans in attendance is exactly what gets the best out
\nof him.<\/p>\n
