The Irish welterweight challenges Makhachev for the 170-pound title
\nin the UFC 330 headliner on Aug. 15 at Xfinity Mobile Arena in
\nPhiladelphia. Considering the Dagestani champion\u2019s accolades,
\ntaking the title off him is a monumental feat, according to
\nGarry.<\/p>\n

Ian Garry views UFC 330 clash with Islam Makhachev as a
\ncareer-defining fight<\/h2>\n

Ahead of their fight, Garry acknowledged the magnitude of the
\nchallenge, calling Makhachev the best fighter in mixed martial arts
\ntoday.<\/p>\n

\u201cI know how good Islam Makhachev is,\u201d Garry told High Performance.
\n\u201cI know how talented he is. He\u2019s 29-1 in the sport. He\u2019s a
\ntwo-weight division champion. He\u2019s the most successful lightweight
\nchampion of all time and had the most lightweight defenses of all
\ntime. He is the current welterweight champion of the world. He came
\nup a division and won the title. He is tied for the longest active
\nwin streak in UFC history, and if he wins his next fight against
\nme, he will break the record for the longest consecutive wins.\u201d<\/p>\n

Despite his appreciation for Makhachev’s accomplishments and
\nskills, Garry remains confident that his own arsenal is enough to
\ndethrone the champion. “The Future” claims a victory over Makhachev
\nwould remove any remaining questions about his standing in the
\nsport.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen I beat him, there can be no doubt. When I beat him, it is
\nundeniable that I am great,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
