Jon
\nJones<\/a> believes his legendary career in the
\nUltimate Fighting Championship<\/a> could have been even greater if
\nhe had better control over his alcohol use.<\/p>\n

The former two-division champion reflected on his career during a
\nrecent interview, admitting that his partying lifestyle during his
\nprime contributed to many of the setbacks he experienced outside of
\nthe Octagon.<\/p>\n

Jon Jones reflects on UFC career setbacks and how alcohol
\naffected his MMA legacy<\/h2>\n

Jones, who is widely regarded as one of the greatest MMA fighters
\nof all time, recently reflected on his antics outside the Octagon,
\nwhich he believes caused several major career setbacks.<\/p>\n

\u201cI became a little bit of a party boy when I was young,\u201d Jones said
\nin an interview with Ring Magazine when asked what he would change
\nabout his career. \u201cAnd sometimes I ask myself, \u2018Jon, how much
\nfarther would you have been if you would have never started with
\nthe alcohol?\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

Jones won titles at both light heavyweight and heavyweight. Many
\nconsider him undefeated, with his lone defeat coming against
\nMatt
\nHamill<\/a> via disqualification back in 2009, a fight he was
\ndominating before an illegal 12-6 elbow prompted a stoppage.
\nHowever, his life outside the cage was often plagued with
\ncontroversies, including run-ins with the law and failed drug
\ntests.<\/p>\n

\u201cI feel all my setbacks in life have been directly related to
\nalcohol,\u201d Jones said. \u201cAnd I\u2019ve been able to achieve some amazing
\nthings and reach some pretty amazing heights. But I feel like
\nthings could have been even much, much higher if I would have never
\ngotten into partying.\u201d<\/p>\n

Drawing from his experience, Jones shared the following advice for
\nyoung fighters:<\/p>\n

\u201cSo, to all you young athletes out there, you know, just keep
\nthings in check.\u201d<\/p>\n
