\nfirst welterweight title defense, roping in fighters with a similar
\nbuild to Ian
\nGarry<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Makhachev is scheduled to put his
\nUltimate Fighting Championship<\/a> welterweight title on the line
\nagainst Garry in the main event of UFC
\n330<\/a> on Aug. 15 at Xfinity Mobile Arena in Philadelphia. The
\nRussian has reportedly brought in Alvarez from Spain to help him
\nget familiar with his upcoming Irish foe\u2019s frame.<\/p>\n

Joel Alvarez helps Islam Makhachev prepare for Ian Garry\u2019s
\nheight, range and distance game<\/h2>\n

While Makhachev is a heavy favorite going into UFC 330, a lot has
\nbeen made of Garry\u2019s defensive savviness and distance management.
\nAlvarez stands at 6-foot-2 and is also adept at fighting at a
\ndistance and using his range as an advantage, which is likely why
\nhe\u2019s been summoned to assist Makhachev. The Dagestani\u2019s teammate,
\n
\nProfessional Fighters League<\/a> champion Usman
\nNurmagomedov<\/a>, has also been mimicking Garry ahead of UFC
\n330.<\/p>\n

The former lightweight champion and current No.1 pound-for-pound
\nfighter previously praised Alvarez after his knockout win over
\nThiago
\nMoises<\/a> in 2021 and the Spaniard subsequently expressed
\ngratitude while revealing that he and his training partner would
\nrole-play Makhachev and Khabib
\nNurmagomedov<\/a> during sparring.<\/p>\n

Alvarez is 8-3 in the UFC with all of his losses coming against
\nelite opponents. The 33-year-old is coming off a submission defeat
\nto Yaroslav
\nAmosov<\/a> at
\nUFC 328<\/a> this past May that snapped a four-fight winning
\nstreak.<\/p>\n

Alvarez\u2019s jiu jitsu coach, Tito Beltran, revealed the news on
\nInstagram while announcing that “El Fenomeno” won\u2019t be available
\nfor a camp in August in Valencia, Spain.<\/p>\n
