Kamaru
\nUsman<\/a> is weighing options regarding his future in the
\nUltimate Fighting Championship<\/a>.<\/p>\n

After suffering a one-sided loss to Dricus Du
\nPlessis<\/a> in the
\nUFC Oklahoma City<\/a> main event, the former welterweight champion
\nadmitted that retirement is now a legitimate possibility as he
\nevaluates the next step in his career.<\/p>\n

Kamaru Usman discusses retirement, Dricus Du Plessis loss and
\nhis UFC future<\/h2>\n

Usman plans to consult his coaches before making a decision on his
\nfuture. The Nigerian-American revealed that retirement is very much
\non the cards after his recent defeat.<\/p>\n

\u201cRight now, I just have to sit with the coaches, sit with the team,
\nassess everything,\u201d Usman said on the “Pound 4 Pound” podcast.
\n\u201cAssess the place where I\u2019m at in my career. Just all in all, see
\nwhether it\u2019s worth continuing to do this. Whether it\u2019s worth
\ncontinuing to put them through that.\u201d<\/p>\n

Usman explained that while previous defeats still left him with
\npositives to build on, the loss to du Plessis felt different. He
\ncited his knockout loss to Leon
\nEdwards<\/a>, the short-notice defeat against Khamzat
\nChimaev<\/a> and the Edwards trilogy bout as performances in which
\nhe still believes he represented himself well.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis one was a hard one because I felt like I didn\u2019t do that,\u201d
\nUsman said. \u201cThere was something to build off of for those fights.
\nThis one, to the untrained eye, looks like I bit off more than I
\ncould chew. Even though I may not feel that on the inside, it
\nlooked that way and I don\u2019t like that.\u201d<\/p>\n

Having accomplished so much in his career, Usman admits it’s
\ndifficult to leave the sport behind after experiencing the highest
\nhighs.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is just as difficult a place to be when we\u2019ve achieved so
\nmuch and you\u2019ve got so many highs in the sport,\u201d the 39-year-old
\nadded. \u201cWhen you start to feel the lows, it\u2019s not that great… It
\nputs you in a really difficult and really tough place to make a
\ntough and potentially permanent decision.\u201d<\/p>\n
