\nProfessional Fighters League<\/a> CEO John Martin saw several
\nfighters make a statement at
\nPFL Washington D.C.<\/a><\/p>\n

The PFL put on a show at CareFirst Arena in the American capital,
\nwhere Thad Jean<\/a>
\n(12-0) and Ernesto
\nRodriguez<\/a> (11-2) fought for the vacant welterweight title in
\nthe main event. Rodriguez accepted the matchup on 48 hours\u2019 notice
\nafter Jean\u2019s original opponent, Shamil
\nMusaev<\/a>, pulled out due to weight cut issues.<\/p>\n

The PFL CEO believes Shamil Musaev deserves the next title
\nshot<\/h2>\n

Jean survived a knockdown scare in the second round and pounded out
\nan exhausted Rodriguez to earn a stoppage win in the third period.
\nMartin appreciates Rodriguez for stepping up to save the main
\nevent, although the Cuban was originally supposed to fight Aaron
\nMcKenzie<\/a> on the same card. Martin also praised Jean for
\naccepting a sudden change of opponent and would like to see him
\ndefend his title against Musaev next.<\/p>\n

\u201cLet\u2019s start with Ernesto\u2026 48 hours ago, he was preparing for a
\ndifferent fight,\u201d Martin said in an interview. \u201cWe approached him,
\nwe gave him a huge opportunity and right on the spot he recognized
\nit and he wanted to do it. And he fought a pretty courageous fight.
\nHe wasn\u2019t training to fight someone who is 6-foot-2 and he also
\nwasn\u2019t training to fight five rounds. Which is a different level of
\npreparation. You could also say the same about Thad Jean.
\nObviously, he came out on top and fought a great fight. But he was
\ntraining for Shamil, who is a completely different fighter\u2026 I would
\nlike to see him do that fight with Shamil.\u201d<\/p>\n

Martin notes that the event was a great night for African talent as
\nNkosi
\nNdebele<\/a> defeated Brandon
\nDavis<\/a> via a dominant decision and Eliezer
\nKubanza<\/a> made Chris Mixan<\/a>
\ntap to a Brabo choke. He was also impressed with Rasul
\nMagomedov<\/a>‘s hard-fought decision win over Sullivan
\nCauley<\/a> and Rafael
\nXavier<\/a>\u2019s first-round buzzer-beater knockout of Tyson
\nPedro<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cTonight was a good night for PFL Africa,\u201d Martin added. \u201cWe had
\ntwo African fighters represent, and both of them came out with
\nreally, really stellar victories\u2026 And then Magomedov — that was a
\nclose fight, and Cauley fought very valiantly\u2026 And Xavier, that was
\nimpressive — also can fight standing up, fight on the ground.
\nThese weight classes are still evolving, but you see nights like
\ntonight, the winners are really putting themselves in positions for
\ntitle contention.\u201d<\/p>\n
