Javier Mendez believes Ian Garry<\/a>\u2019s
\nmental strength and confidence will be his biggest weapon when he
\nchallenges Islam
\nMakhachev<\/a> for the
\nUltimate Fighting Championship<\/a> welterweight title.<\/p>\n

Garry is set to face Makhachev in the main event of UFC
\n330<\/a> on Aug. 15 at Xfinity Mobile Arena in Philadelphia, where
\nhe\u2019ll look to produce a massive upset. While Makhachev\u2019s elite
\ngrappling is widely regarded as the biggest X-factor in the
\nmatchup, Mendez believes Garry\u2019s mindset makes him a legitimate
\nthreat.<\/p>\n

Mendez, the
\nAmerican Kickboxing Academy<\/a> founder and coach to several former
\nchampions including Khabib
\nNurmagomedov<\/a>, Luke
\nRockhold<\/a>, Cain
\nVelasquez<\/a> and Daniel
\nCormier<\/a>, has praised Garry\u2019s confidence and mental toughness
\nahead of UFC 330.<\/p>\n

\u201cIan\u2019s Garry\u2019s mental game is huge,\u201d Mendez said in an interview
\nwith NewBettingSites<\/a>. \u201cThat\u2019s what my book is about.
\nIt is all about mental strength and how you can do anything with
\nmental strength if done right. Proper planning and execution with
\nthe right formula. It can\u2019t just be, \u2018I can beat gorillas, but I am
\na little ant.\u2019 It\u2019s impossible. You have to be realistic. Realistic
\nexpectations create real results.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mendez then highlighted the difference between confidence and
\noverconfidence, citing Ilia
\nTopuria<\/a> losing the title at
\nUFC Freedom 250<\/a> to Justin
\nGaethje<\/a> as an example.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe fight will go the full five rounds. We will win all five
\nrounds. That will never change\u2026 Never,\u201d Mendez added. \u201cI\u2019m not
\ndoing my fighter justice by putting something that is not realistic
\nin my mind. It\u2019s not to say that Islam can\u2019t finish the fight
\nearlier, but I just don\u2019t want to do that. Look at what happened to
\nIlia
\nTopuria<\/a>. He predicted all types of outcomes for his fight and
\nthe next thing we know, he is sitting there with a broken orbital
