Nurmagomedov retired at the age of 32 as the undefeated and
\nundisputed
\nUltimate Fighting Championship<\/a> lightweight champion. Makhachev
\nthen surpassed his mentor\u2019s accomplishments at 155 pounds before
\nclaiming gold at 170 pounds. The reigning welterweight king has no
\nintentions of stopping anytime soon.<\/p>\n

Makhachev is set to defend his welterweight title for the first
\ntime when he meets Ian Garry<\/a> in
\nthe UFC
\n330<\/a> headliner on Aug. 15 in Philadelphia. Ahead of his first
\ntitle defense at 170 pounds, the Dagestani made it clear that early
\nretirement isn\u2019t part of his plans. While a victory over Garry will
\nsee Makhachev break the Octagon record for most consecutive wins,
\nhe\u2019s looking to extend the record and further cement his
\nlegacy.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am the best fighter in the world, but I want to be the best
\nfighter to ever do this,\u201d Makhachev said during a UFC 330
\npromotional video broadcast during
\nUFC Belgrade<\/a>. \u201cI have to beat Garry to beat Anderson
\nSilva<\/a>‘s record. And it’s not going to be just 17 [wins in a
\nrow], it’s going to be many more. I am the best fighter in the
\nworld. I’m going to show it in Philadelphia.\u201d<\/p>\n

Following a promise made to his mother, Nurmagomedov retired months
\nafter the death of his father and coach, Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov.
\n\u201cThe Eagle\u201d has since weighed in on Makhachev’s future, previously
\nrevealing that the latter only has a few more fights left, but the
