Cain
\nVelasquez<\/a> has reflected on how life has changed since his
\nrelease from prison.<\/p>\n

The former
\nUltimate Fighting Championship<\/a> champion was incarcerated after
\ntargeting an individual he accused of molesting one of his young
\nrelatives. He was released earlier this year, but has stayed away
\nfrom the limelight. Velasquez has now opened up about his time in
\nprison and the changes that have followed.<\/p>\n

Former UFC champion Cain Velasquez reveals how life changed
\nafter prison<\/h2>\n

Back in 2022, Velasquez pursued Harry Goularte, a man he accused of
\nmolesting one of his young relatives in San Jose, California. He
\neven shot at Goularte\u2019s vehicle, but he came away uninjured.
\nVelasquez was later sentenced to five years in prison for the
\nincident.<\/p>\n

After being released in February upon serving 11 months, Velasquez
\nhas been focused on rebuilding his life. He is currently mentoring
\nfighters at
\nAmerican Kickboxing Academy<\/a> in San Jose.<\/p>\n

\u201cI’ve always been a teacher even though I didn’t necessarily think
\nI was or I didn’t want to,\u201d Velasquez told NBC<\/a>. \u201cBut now I’m taking more on that road of
\nteaching others, but I’m still looking to learn. In the last four
\nyears of getting things taken away…I’ve always stayed really just
\ntrue to myself and how I want to continue with life and that’s
\nliving from a place of love and giving back. It all just starts
\nwith forgiving yourself. Hopefully somebody can see my story and
\nhopefully that can help them as well. They can learn from my
\nmistakes as well.\u201d<\/p>\n

When Velasquez trains and teaches at AKA, he makes sure to spend
\ntime practicing breathing, which he calls \u201cascension breath,\u201d to
\ndeal with past traumas.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe breathing helps you get rid of or work through some traumas,
\nthings that you haven’t let go of, but also the day-to-day, let go
\nof things in the moment so you can just focus on what you’re doing
\nhere, and that’s the specific form of combat,\u201d Velasquez added. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
