\nMakhachev<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Makhachev is set to make his first 170-pound title defense when he
\nmeets Garry in the UFC
\n330<\/a> main event on Aug. 15 at Xfinity Mobile Arena in
\nPhiladelphia. White recently highlighted what makes the Irish
\nchallenger a \u201cserious threat\u201d to the welterweight title.<\/p>\n

Dana White explains why Ian Garry\u2019s takedown defense could
\nchallenge Islam Makhachev at UFC 330<\/h2>\n

White pointed to Garry’s defensive wrestling as a potential
\nequalizer against Makhachev. He said that if \u201cThe Future\u201d proves
\ntoo difficult to take down, the champion could struggle to impose
\nhis will.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think it’s a great fight, actually,\u201d White told The Mac Life.
\n\u201cIf you look at what Ian Garry has been able to do, he frustrates
\npeople. His takedown defense has been excellent and we’ll see if he
\ncan stay on his feet. Obviously, if he can stay off the ground, he
\nposes a serious threat to Islam.\u201d<\/p>\n

Makhachev put on a wrestling clinic against Jack
\nDella Maddalena<\/a> to win the welterweight title and has
\npreviously submitted the likes of Charles
\nOliveira<\/a>, Dustin
\nPoirier<\/a> and Dan Hooker<\/a>.
\nThe only title fight in which the Dagestani fighter struggled was
\nhis first bout with Alexander
\nVolkanovski<\/a>, who displayed tremendous takedown defense to push
\nMakhachev to the limit.<\/p>\n

Garry has emerged as one of the most defensively sound fighters in
\nthe UFC, making him a tricky stylistic matchup for Makhachev.<\/p>\n
