Quillan
\nSalkilld<\/a> has quickly ascended the ranks in the
\nUltimate Fighting Championship<\/a> lightweight division, but the
\nAustralian has opted against having a nickname.<\/p>\n

While many fighters embrace a moniker to help build their identity
\nboth inside and outside the Octagon, Salkilld has chosen to compete
\nsolely under his name and recently explained why.<\/p>\n

Quillan Salkilld always wanted a nickname \u2018bestowed\u2019 on him,
\nbut nothing stuck<\/h2>\n

In a recent interview ahead of his first main event in the UFC,
\nSalkilld was asked why he doesn\u2019t have a traditional nickname. He
\nexplained that he wants to be given one, rather than picking one
\nhimself.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think my name is hard enough to pronounce,\u201d Salkilld said. \u201cI
\nhave always wanted not to give myself a nickname and have one, just
\nlike, you know, bestowed upon me. Yeah, I have had my coach come up
\nwith a couple of them, and yeah, they weren\u2019t\u2026 They were just all
\np*ss takes and jokes. Sidelined them; I will just stick to my real
\nname.\u201d<\/p>\n

Salkilld takes on the biggest step up in competition of his career
\nso far at
\nUFC Vegas 120<\/a>, squaring off against Mateusz
\nGamrot<\/a> on Aug. 8 at Meta Apex in Las Vegas. He\u2019s 5-0 in the UFC
\nwith four first-round finishes since earning a contract on
\nDana White\u2019s Contender Series<\/a>.<\/p>\n
