Joe Rogan believes Tom
\nAspinall<\/a> deserved more sympathy following the controversial
\nending to his bout with Ciryl Gane<\/a>
\nlast year.<\/p>\n

Aspinall\u2019s first defense of the
\nUltimate Fighting Championship<\/a> undisputed heavyweight title
\nended in a no contest after the British champion suffered a severe
\neye poke that left him unable to continue. The conclusion to the
\nUFC
\n321<\/a> main event sparked debate among fans, with some questioning
\nthe severity of the injury and whether Aspinall could have
\ncontinued.<\/p>\n

Joe Rogan defends Tom Aspinall’s UFC 321 no contest with Ciryl
\nGane after double eye surgery<\/h2>\n

Rogan recently pushed back against criticism directed at Aspinall.
\nSpeaking to Rico
\nVerhoeven<\/a> on a recent episode of his podcast, the veteran UFC
\ncommentator argued that Aspinall was unfairly maligned despite
\ndealing with a legitimate injury that eventually required
\nsurgery.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe [Aspinall] got a bad deal,\u201d Rogan said. \u201cHe got really f*cked
\nover for that fight.\u201d<\/p>\n

Rogan took issue with criticism suggesting that Aspinall should
\nhave continued competing despite the eye injury, pointing out that
\nthe British heavyweight was defending his title and was unable to
\nsee properly.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe way people got upset at him for stopping the fight with those
\neye pokes, to me that drove me crazy,\u201d Rogan added. \u201cWhat do you
\nexpect the guy to do? He\u2019s defending the heavyweight title. He gets
\npoked in the eyes, and he can\u2019t f*cking see and he\u2019s had two eye
\nsurgeries since then. If you looked at the eye poke, [Gane] was
\nknuckle-deep in his eye hole.\u201d<\/p>\n

Aspinall later underwent double eye surgery to recover from the
\ninjury, further reinforcing Rogan\u2019s belief that the champion\u2019s
\ninability to continue was justified.<\/p>\n

\u201cI just hate that fans reacted the way they reacted — and it\u2019s the
\ncasual ones,\u201d Rogan said. \u201cFor me, I was like, \u2018God, you\u2019ve got to
\ngive the guy some grace.\u2019 He got his eye poked out. For anyone to
\nthink that he should be fighting with one eye like that — ‘Who
\ncares — keep fighting’ — that’s insane. He got fouled. It’s not
\nbecause of a punch. It’s not because he got kicked or an elbow —
\nit’s a foul. So no, the fight should have been stopped the way it
\nwas and everybody should understand that. It’s not his fault. It
\nwas his opponent’s fault.\u201d<\/p>\n

Aspinall is expected to run it back with Gane next after the
\nFrenchman won the interim title at
\nUFC Freedom 250<\/a>.<\/p>\n
