Daniel
\nCormier<\/a> says one of the strangest moments of his broadcasting
\ncareer came when he unknowingly criticized a fighter who was later
\ninvestigated in connection with alleged fight-fixing.<\/p>\n

The
\nUltimate Fighting Championship<\/a> Hall of Famer recently reflected
\non the incident during an appearance on the \u201cIn the Bayou\u201d podcast,
\nexplaining that he spent the bout questioning the fighter’s
\nunusually poor grappling before learning about the suspected
\nbetting irregularities.<\/p>\n

The UFC Hall of Famer details how an ordinary broadcast became
\nlinked to a betting investigation<\/h2>\n

Cormier recalled a UFC bout that was later flagged for suspicious
\nactivity, though he did not know about the investigation while
\ncalling the fight. During the broadcast, he questioned the
\nfighter\u2019s struggles on the ground before learning that the matchup
\nwas under investigation.<\/p>\n

\u201cOne time they had a fight at the UFC Apex and this one dude was
\ngrappling. He was so horrible at grappling,\u201d Cormier said. \u201cI\u2019m on
\ncommentary wondering how this kid could be so bad. These are basic
\nthings you should be able to do and defend.\u201d<\/p>\n

Cormier said UFC officials later informed him that the fighter was
\nsuspected of intentionally trying to lose and that the bout had
\nalready drawn attention from federal investigators because of
\nsuspicious betting activity.<\/p>\n

\u201cCome to find out this dude was trying to throw the fight but not
\ndoing a good job of it,\u201d Cormier recalled. \u201cThe whole time I\u2019m just
\non him. Then they called me and said, \u2018DC, the fact that you were
\ncalling him out and you had no idea what was going on\u2026 When the kid
\nlost the way that he did, they took him to the back because the FBI
\nwas already there.\u201d<\/p>\n

Cormier did not reveal the bout in question. He added that betting
\nmarkets are now closely monitored for irregular movement, with
\nauthorities and regulators acting quickly whenever something
\nappears suspicious.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe FBI starts watching these betting lines and if something looks
\noff, they pull the fight. They\u2019ve done that a number of times
\nnow.\u201d<\/p>\n

He also praised the promotion\u2019s efforts to protect the integrity of
\nits events. While acknowledging that fight-fixing remains an
\nongoing concern across combat sports, Cormier believes the UFC has
\ntaken significant steps to combat the issue.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou have to keep it authentic. It has to be real.\u201d<\/p>\n
