\nretirement fight against Yadier Dell Valle at
\nUFC Vegas 120<\/a>, taking place at Meta Apex in Las Vegas on Aug.

\u2018I did it my way\u2019: Darren Elkins reflects on career ahead of
\nretirement bout<\/h2>\n

The 42-year-old revealed that he has been contemplating retirement
\nfor quite some time, as his body is no longer what it once was.
\nAfter more than a decade and a half in the UFC, Elkins wants to lay
\ndown his gloves inside the Octagon rather than announce his
\nretirement on social media.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m older in age now,\u201d Elkins said at media day. \u201cBut mostly, I\u2019m
\nstarting to get hurt now a little bit more often. Training all the
\ntime is taking a toll on my body more than it used to. It\u2019s time;
\nI\u2019ve been contemplating it for a while\u2026 I\u2019ve always wanted to leave
\nmy gloves in the Octagon; most people don\u2019t get that chance.\u201d<\/p>\n

Elkins went 19-11 in the UFC, delivering some of the most violent
\nfights in featherweight history. Not one to trash talk, \u201cThe
\nDamage\u201d also received respect from his opponents. In a sport where
\nfighters often cross boundaries and use gimmicks to sell fights,
\nElkins is proud to have gone about his business with respect.<\/p>\n

\u201cI haven\u2019t had too many guys that have ever disrespected me in this
\ncareer,\u201d Elkins said. \u201cThey know who I am, they know what I\u2019m
\nabout, they know I\u2019m going to bring it. I didn\u2019t always get the
\nresults I want, but they knew they were going to be in a fight\u2026 I
\nnever had to talk crap about my opponents. I did it my way. I did
\neverything my way. Most people can\u2019t say that.\u201d<\/p>\n
