The Irish welterweight contender, who challenges Islam

\nUltimate Fighting Championship<\/a> 170-pound title in the UFC
\n330<\/a> main event, recently opened up about what drives him.<\/p>\n

Ian Garry channels fighting Irish spirit before first UFC title

Ahead of his title clash on Aug. 15 at Xfinity Mobile Arena in
\nPhiladelphia, Garry discussed his motivation in a pre-fight
\npromotional video shared by Paramount+.<\/p>\n

\u201cI just have a burning desire inside my soul to prove to myself and
\nthe world that I am the best ever,\u201d Garry said. \u201cThis is a vicious,
\nviolent game. And it\u2019s beautiful. You\u2019ve got to be insane mentally
\nto be able to go out and do this.\u201d<\/p>\n

He added that his country\u2019s fighting spirit is embedded deep within
\nhim.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m a fighter at heart,\u201d Garry added. \u201cI\u2019m born and bred in
\nDublin, Ireland. We\u2019re called the fighting Irish for a reason. It’s
\nin our blood. It\u2019s in our bones. It\u2019s in our soul. Every time we
\nfight, we show up. We fight, and we fight our a**es off. Every time
\nyou watch me fight, I represent that tricolor. You have to be 110%
\nconfident.\u201d<\/p>\n

Garry (17-1) enters UFC 330 as a significant betting underdog
\nagainst Makhachev (28-1).<\/p>\n
