\nMakhachev<\/a> showed off his fishing skills ahead of his maiden
\ntitle defense at welterweight in the
\nUltimate Fighting Championship<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Before facing Ian Garry<\/a>
\n(17-1) at UFC
\n330<\/a> on Aug. 15 at Xfinity Mobile Arena in Philadelphia,
\nMakhachev (28-1) has been enjoying his off-time while based in New
\nJersey. While he frequently fishes back in his home country and
\nwhile doing training camps in the United States, the Russian\u2019s
\nresolve was recently tested by a shark.<\/p>\n

Islam Makhachev reels in shark before UFC 330 clash with Ian
\nMachado Garry<\/h2>\n

Makhachev has now done two training camps on the East Coast, with
\nNew Jersey serving as the Dagestani\u2019s team\u2019s base. Notably, the
\nformer lightweight champ did his training camp in Jersey last year
\nahead of the welterweight title-winning effort against Jack
\nDella Maddalena<\/a> in New York. Fishing has emerged as one of his
\nfavorite pastimes when he isn\u2019t training.<\/p>\n

The latest episode of the UFC’s \u201cEmbedded\u201d video series on YouTube
\nfollowed Makhachev and some of his teammates fishing by the
\ncoastline. In the video, Makhachev is seen using a large fishing
\nrod before eventually reeling in a shark. His segment ends with the
\nchampion posing for a picture while jokingly bemoaning that he has
\nto train the following day after being pushed to the limit by the
\nshark.<\/p>\n

He addressed his hobby in the first episode of \u201cEmbedded\u201d as well,
\nproudly showcasing his fishing rod.<\/p>\n
