Makhachev (28-1) puts his
\nUltimate Fighting Championship<\/a> welterweight title on the line
\nfor the first time against Ian Garry<\/a>
\n(17-1) at UFC
\n330<\/a> on Aug. 15 at Xfinity Mobile Arena in Philadelphia. The
\nRussian returns nine months after winning the 170-pound belt and he
\nwants to be more active going forward.<\/p>\n

Islam Makhachev wants quicker UFC turnaround after Ian Garry
\ntitle fight<\/h2>\n

Makhachev says he wouldn\u2019t mind fighting again this year if he
\ndoesn\u2019t have any injuries. While he has been accused of inactivity
\npreviously, the Dagestani champion claims that he wants to fight as
\noften as possible. The 34-year-old wants to make the most of the
\nlimited time he has left in his career.<\/p>\n

Makhachev says that bookings are often delayed due to factors
\nbeyond his control.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s not a problem for me if I don\u2019t have any injuries, not cut
\nmuch weight,\u201d Makhachev told UFC Hall of Famer Demetrious
\nJohnson<\/a>. \u201cI\u2019m not like young guy. Now it\u2019s better for me to
\nfight every three to four months\u2026 I understand I\u2019m not 28 years
\nold; I\u2019m 34 right now. And I don\u2019t have much time. Sometimes it\u2019s
\nnot going like you want in the UFC. You want to fight after three
\nor four months, but it\u2019s not according to your wish.\u201d<\/p>\n

Makhachev has rarely fought more than twice a year since joining
\nthe UFC in 2015. However, a large part of his early UFC career was
\nstalled due to opponents ducking him. Makhachev won the lightweight
\ntitle in 2022 and defended it four times before moving up to
\nwelterweight last year.<\/p>\n
