\nminimal height difference at their first face-off.<\/p>\n

Garry (17-1) is set to challenge Makhachev (28-1) for the
\nUltimate Fighting Championship<\/a> welterweight title at UFC
\n330<\/a> on Aug. 15 at Xfinity Mobile Arena in Philadelphia. At
\n6-foot-3 tall, Garry officially has a 5-inch height advantage over
\nMakhachev. However, they were nearly eye-to-eye when they faced off
\nfor the first time in front of the iconic Rocky statue in
\nPhilly.<\/p>\n

Ian Garry addresses lack of height difference in first face-off
\nwith Islam Makhachev<\/h2>\n

Garry claims Makhachev was wearing high heels to nullify the height
\ndifference. The Irishman is sure that he\u2019ll be significantly taller
\nduring the ceremonial weigh-in face-offs, where they both have to
\nwear the same type of shoes.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe was wearing high heels,\u201d Garry said in an interview with
\nParamount+. \u201cHe was wearing stilettos. Wait till you see Friday
\nnight when we\u2019re both wearing the same shoes\u2026 Because we\u2019re
\nobligated to wear the same shoes.\u201d<\/p>\n

Makhachev refuted Garry\u2019s accusations, claiming to have worn
\nregular shoes during the face-off. The Dagestani champion also says
\nthat he has grown bigger since the UFC first recorded his official
\nheight at 5-foot-10 before his Octagon debut in 2015.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s regular shoes, nothing special,\u201d Makhachev said. \u201cAnd that
\nnumber which I have right now is because UFC check my [height] when
\nI debuted 10-11 years ago. UFC have to check again. I have become
\nbig right now. I\u2019m welterweight, no more lightweight.\u201d<\/p>\n
