Makhachev (28-1) defends his
\nUltimate Fighting Championship<\/a> welterweight title against Garry
\n(17-1) at UFC
\n330<\/a> on Aug. 15 at Xfinity Mobile Arena in Philadelphia.
\nMakhachev and Garry recently faced off for the first time in front
\nof the iconic Rocky statue in Philly, where the challenger
\nperceived nerves on the champ\u2019s part.<\/p>\n

Ian Garry on face-off with Islam Makhachev: \u2018He didn\u2019t want to
\nbe there\u2019<\/h2>\n

Garry claims to have felt some \u201cnervous energy\u201d from the Dagestani
\nchampion. However, he also admitted that it was an unofficial
\nface-off and the one that actually matters is the official one at
\nthe ceremonial weigh-ins, after they\u2019ve made weight.<\/p>\n

\u201cI just kind of felt like yesterday he didn\u2019t want to be there,\u201d
\nGarry said at UFC 330 media day. \u201cHe didn\u2019t want to be at the
\nface-off. I sensed a little bit of nervous energy from him. But
\nthey are face-offs; they are fake, they are for social media, they
\nare for Instagram, they are for obligations. They\u2019re not for us.
\nThe face-off that matters to me is Friday, when we\u2019ve made weight,
\nwhen we\u2019ve done all the hard work, we show up in front of fans and
\nit\u2019s the last time we get to look at each other before we meet in
\nthe Octagon.\u201d<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Makhachev seemed completely unfazed by Garry\u2019s
\nperception. The Russian says this is the second time in his career
\nthat he is enjoying every moment of fight week.<\/p>\n

\u201cI’m not nervous,\u201d Makhachev said at media day. \u201cThis is like my
\nsecond fight week in my life where I enjoying every moment.\u201d<\/p>\n
