Ian
\nGarry<\/a> is willing to travel the world to be the best fighter he
\ncan be.<\/p>\n

While Garry (17-1) is Irish, he\u2019s mostly trained at
\nChute Boxe<\/a> in Brazil in recent years. He\u2019s scheduled to
\nchallenge Islam
\nMakhachev<\/a> (28-1) for the
\nUltimate Fighting Championship<\/a> welterweight title in the main
\nevent of UFC
\n330<\/a> on Aug. 15 at Xfinity Mobile Arena in Philadelphia.<\/p>\n

Ian Garry details his Brazil training camp before facing Islam
\nMakhachev at UFC 330<\/h2>\n

Garry has split his camp between England, Ireland and Brazil for
\nhis upcoming fight. \u201cThe Future\u201d is honing his ground game with
\ngrappling legend Demian Maia<\/a>,
\none of the key reasons he moved to Brazil in the first place. He
\nrecently explained that training under Maia is worth the
\nrelocation.<\/p>\n

\u201cI want to do what I need to do or what I believe I need to do to
\nbe the best I possibly can be,\u201d Garry told Spinnin Backfist. \u201cSo,
\ntraveling out to Brazil and training jiu-jitsu with Demian Maia,
\narguably the greatest grappler in MMA history, sounds like an
\nabsolute no-brainer. It’s inarguable. There is nobody in MMA in
\nIrish history that is as good a grappler or as talented as Demian
\nMaia. So, it’s non-negotiable. It’s not a conversation.\u201d<\/p>\n

Garry also used to train at
\nKill Cliff FC<\/a> in Florida under coach Henri Hooft. He reasons
\nthat the American gym used to be filled with elite welterweights
\nwhen he trained there.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen I traveled to Florida to train with Henri Hooft in Kill Cliff
\nat the time, it was because Henri Hooft had helped mold many, many
\nchampions in this sport,\u201d Garry added. \u201cBut not only that, the guys
\nthat trained at that gym were of the highest level\u2026 So, I’m going
\nnow where there is nothing but elite-level athletes to go and
\nlearn, pick their brains and help evolve myself. So, when I made
\nthe decision to leave Ireland to go and train, it was with 100%
\nfocus on what can I, as an athlete, do to be the best version of
\nme.\u201d<\/p>\n

Garry previously trained at Team Renegade, home to Leon
\nEdwards<\/a>, in Birmingham, England. He was banned from the gym
\nover allegations of recording training sessions without permission.
\nThe polarizing Irishman was also reportedly banned from other gyms
\nin England for a variety of reasons.<\/p>\n
