\nUltimate Fighting Championship<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The Russian retained his title at UFC
\n330<\/a>, winning via decision after a back-and-forth five-round
\nbattle against Ian Garry<\/a>,
\nonce again relying on his wrestling to control the challenger.
\nMakhachev later praised Garry and his team, commending their
\nefforts in shutting down multiple takedown and submission
\nattempts.<\/p>\n

Makhachev weighs Garry\u2019s challenge against Alexander
\nVolkanovski<\/h2>\n

In his post-fight interview with Joe Rogan, Makhachev acknowledged
\nthat Garry gave him a \u201chard\u201d fight, but stopped short of anointing
\nit the toughest of his career, hinting at his first bout with
\nAlexander
\nVolkanovski<\/a> being on par, if not more challenging.<\/p>\n

\u201cYeah, he’s a great fighter, good man and I just respect him,\u201d
\nMakhachev said. \u201cHe gave me a hard time, but I still prove every
\nfight.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Dagestani also credited Garry\u2019s coach, former UFC fighter
\nDemian
\nMaia<\/a>, for the Irishman\u2019s grappling improvements.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe improved a lot,\u201d Makhachev added. \u201cHe is working with one of
\nthe best fighter coaches, Demian Maia. That’s why I see he improved
\nhis grappling also.\u201d<\/p>\n

The victory extended Makhachev’s UFC winning streak to 17 fights, a
\nnew record. Meanwhile, Garry has to work his way back into title
\ncontention, with Carlos
\nPrates<\/a> and Michael
\nMorales<\/a> now gunning for the 170-pound title.<\/p>\n
