\nMakhachev<\/a>\u2019s coach, Javier Mendez, has nothing but praise for
\nIan
\nGarry<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Makhachev (29-1) put his
\nUltimate Fighting Championship<\/a> welterweight title on the line
\nagainst Garry (17-2) at UFC
\n330<\/a> in Philadelphia. The challenger pushed the champ to the
\nlimit, stuffing multiple takedown and submission attempts, but
\nultimately lost via decision.<\/p>\n

Ian Garry earns praise from Islam Makhachev\u2019s coach after
\npushing the champion at UFC 330<\/h2>\n

While Makhachev was able to take Garry down, he wasn\u2019t able to
\ncontrol the Irishman as he did against his previous opponents.
\nMakhachev even missed several takedown attempts altogether.
\nFurthermore, Garry showed no signs of fatigue throughout the bout
\nand appeared to be the fresher fighter the deeper the fight went,
\nwhile the champion\u2019s face was heavily bruised.<\/p>\n

Mendez was impressed with Garry\u2019s valiant display and believes the
\nformer
\nCage Warriors<\/a> champ should remain the No. 1 welterweight
\ncontender on the UFC\u2019s official\u2019s rankings after his performance
\nagainst Makhachev.<\/p>\n

\u201cIan Garry came in to demonstrate how tough he was, how deserving
\nhe is of the No. 1 spot and he proved his point,\u201d Mendez told
\nSubmission Radio. \u201cHe\u2019s the No. 1 contender for a reason and he
\nprobably should stay No. 1 contender after this performance, in my
\nopinion.\u201d<\/p>\n

Makhachev is targeting Carlos
\nPrates<\/a> for his next title defense, with the unbeaten Michael
\nMorales<\/a>, who weighed in as a backup at UFC 330, also in
\ncontention.<\/p>\n
