An entertaining night of fights concluded with one of the
\nUltimate Fighting Championship<\/a>\u2019s best main events of the year
\nat UFC Fight Night 285 in Sacramento, California.<\/p>\n


\nUFC Sacramento<\/a> was headlined by an excellent middleweight
\nmatchup between Gregory
\nRodrigues<\/a> (20-6, 11-3 UFC) and Anthony
\nHernandez<\/a> (15-4, 1 NC; 9-4 UFC), which ended with Rodrigues
\nearning the victory and Hernandez\u2019s stock rising in defeat.<\/p>\n

Hernandez kept Rodrigues tied up in clinches against the cage for
\nmost of the first round but was unable to take him down. Rodrigues
\nlanded a strong right hand that backed up Hernandez, who responded
\nwith a combination before clinching once more. Late in the round,
\n\u201cRobocop\u201d connected with an uppercut and two elbows to the side of
\nHernandez\u2019s head. Rodrigues put together a three-punch combination
\nin the second round and attacked the lead leg of \u201cFluffy,\u201d who
\nremained unable to secure a takedown. Rodrigues dropped Hernandez
\ntwice with leg kicks and landed punches as his wounded opponent
\nreturned to his feet. A third knockdown from a leg kick followed,
\nand Rodrigues settled into Hernandez\u2019s half guard and delivered
\nforearm strikes to the face. Hernandez stood, but Rodrigues hurt
\nhim again with another leg kick. The round ended with a frenetic
\nexchange of punches, and Hernandez secured a takedown just as the
\nhorn sounded.<\/p>\n

Hernandez immediately took Rodrigues down in the third round and
\nhunted for a rear-naked choke. Rodrigues returned to his feet but
\nappeared tired, and Hernandez held him against the cage throughout
\nthe round. Rodrigues fared better in the fourth, landing kicks and
\npunches to Hernandez\u2019s body. He finished one combination with two
\nsweeping kicks to Hernandez\u2019s damaged left leg. Rodrigues began
\ntargeting the head during the second half of the round and
\nrepeatedly backed up Hernandez with punches, including a series of
\nright hooks. Hernandez finally took Rodrigues down with three
\nseconds remaining.<\/p>\n

Gregory Rodrigues extends winning streak with decision over
\nAnthony Hernandez<\/h2>\n

Rodrigues slowed in the final round but continued to damage
\nHernandez\u2019s leg with kicks. Hernandez clinched but could not secure
\na takedown. He landed elbows on the break and continued to press
\nforward. With 90 seconds remaining, Rodrigues finished a
\ncombination with a leg kick that knocked down Hernandez. Rodrigues
\npunched from Hernandez\u2019s guard while Hernandez responded with
\nelbows from the bottom. The fight ended with Rodrigues taking
\nHernandez\u2019s back and trapping him in a modified twister.<\/p>\n

The judges scored the fight 49-46, 48-47 and 48-47 for Rodrigues,
\nwho earned the hard-fought unanimous decision. He has won seven of
\nhis past eight fights, including four straight. Hernandez showed
\ntremendous resilience in defeat, particularly during his
\nthird-round rally, but fell to 0-2 in 2026 following a February
\nloss to Sean
\nStrickland<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The heavyweight co-main event was a lackluster affair, as Vitor
\nPetrino<\/a> (15-2, 8-2 UFC) earned a unanimous decision over
\nSerghei
\nSpivac<\/a> (18-7, 9-7 UFC). Petrino bloodied Spivac\u2019s nose with a
\nstiff jab in the first round, but the action was otherwise limited.
\nPetrino took Spivac down against the base of the cage in the second
\nround and landed punches while preventing him from returning to his
\nfeet. Petrino advanced to mount and punched until Spivac rolled
\nover and escaped out the back. The round ended with Spivac landing
\npunches while holding down Petrino. Spivac stunned Petrino with two
\nright hands in the final round, but Petrino dragged him to the
\ncanvas and again took his back. Spivac eventually returned to his
\nfeet, and Petrino was content to circle for the final 90 seconds.
\nThe displeased crowd showered the fighters with boos. All three
\njudges scored the bout 30-27 for Petrino.<\/p>\n

Former two-division One Championship titleholder Reinier
\nde Ridder<\/a> (22-4, 5-2 UFC) made a triumphant return to the light
\nheavyweight division by finishing Roman
\nDolidze<\/a> (15-6, 9-6 UFC) in the first round. Dolidze pulled
\nguard in the opening seconds and unsuccessfully attempted to roll
\nfor a kneebar. De Ridder landed elbows and punches to the side of
\nDolidze\u2019s head as his opponent covered up. The fight appeared close
\nto being stopped, but Dolidze rolled forward and returned to half
\nguard. De Ridder mounted him and then took his back, where he
\nlanded punches until the bout was waved off 4:01 into Round 1.<\/p>\n

A lightweight matchup between MarQuel
\nMederos<\/a> (12-1-1, 4-0-1 UFC) and Mason Jones<\/a>
\n(18-3, 1 NC; 4-3, 1 NC UFC) featured action from start to finish
\nand ended with Mederos prevailing by technical knockout. Mederos
\nfound success with calf kicks early, and Jones clinched following
\nan exchange of punches. Mederos pushed him away, but Jones charged
\nforward with hooks that forced him backward. Mederos briefly
\nwobbled Jones with two hooks, but Jones knocked him down with a leg
\nkick and took his back. Mederos reversed into Jones\u2019 guard and
\nremained there until the horn. The nonstop action continued in the
\nsecond round, and Jones outstruck Mederos with punches until
\nMederos hurt him with an elbow. Jones staggered, and Mederos
\nswarmed him with another elbow and a flurry of punches. Jones was
\nheld up by the cage when referee Jason Herzog stepped in to rescue
\nhim from further damage 2:07 into Round 2.<\/p>\n

Carli
\nJudice<\/a> (7-2, 4-1 UFC) extended her winning streak to four by
\nhanding Jeisla
\nChaves<\/a> (8-1, 1-1 UFC) her first defeat in a women\u2019s flyweight
\ncontest. The pace was high from the opening horn, as both women
\nlanded punches and body kicks. Chaves blocked a head kick, but
\nJudice immediately followed with a front kick to the midsection.
\nChaves dropped to a knee in pain, and Judice finished her with
\npunches for a technical knockout 1:39 into Round 1.<\/p>\n

The main card opened with a battle between former Fury Fighting
\nChampionship heavyweights, as Anthony
\nWint<\/a> (8-0, 1-0 UFC) remained unbeaten by choking out Terrance
\nChatman<\/a> (5-2, 0-1 UFC). Wint took Chatman down into half guard
\nmidway through the opening round, and Chatman countered with a
\nkimura from the bottom. Wint escaped by punching Chatman in the
\nface and then locked in an arm-triangle choke. Chatman initially
\nappeared to be OK, but his eyes suddenly closed and he went limp,
\nprompting referee Herb Dean<\/a> to
\nstop the fight 4:29 into Round 1. The victory was Wint\u2019s second of
\nthe month following his Aug. 11 appearance on Dana White\u2019s
\nContender Series, where he earned a UFC contract.<\/p>\n

In the preliminary-card finale, featherweight veteran Jamall
\nEmmers<\/a> (23-8, 6-4 UFC) upset highly touted prospect Lerryan
\nDouglas<\/a> (14-6, 1-1 UFC) by first-round technical knockout. The
\nfight began with an exchange of calf kicks, and Emmers circled as
\nDouglas used jabs to set up overhand rights. Emmers put together a
\ncombination before Douglas closed the distance with more jabs.
\nDouglas became too aggressive, however, and Emmers dropped him with
\na counter jab-cross combination. Douglas covered up, and Emmers
\nfollowed with punches on the ground to secure the stoppage 3:38
\ninto Round 1.<\/p>\n

Heavyweight Shamil
\nGaziev<\/a> (15-3, 4-3 UFC) capitalized on Kennedy
\nNzechukwu<\/a>\u2019s questionable strategy and knocked him unconscious
\nwith a devastating right hand. Nzechukwu circled with his hands at
\nhis waist and occasionally jabbed while Gaziev timed his attacks.
\nGaziev eventually landed a right hand to the jaw that sent an
\nunconscious Nzechukwu crashing to the canvas 1:20 into Round 1.<\/p>\n

After nearly three rounds of limited action, the lightweight bout
\nbetween Chris
\nPadilla<\/a> (18-6-1, 5-0-1 UFC) and Nasrat
\nHaqparast<\/a> (18-7, 10-6 UFC) ended with a buzzer-beating victory
\nfor Padilla. The opening round was uneventful, and the crowd booed
\nthe lack of action. The fighters exchanged a few body kicks, and
\nPadilla was the more effective kicker, but Haqparast landed four
\noverhand lefts that were the most significant strikes of the round.
\nHaqparast countered Padilla\u2019s kicks with a pair of quick left hooks
\nduring the opening minutes of the second frame. Padilla caught a
\nkick and cracked Haqparast with a right hand. The crowd responded
\nwith more boos, while Haqparast found late success with counter
\nleft hooks as Padilla moved forward. The pace increased slightly in
\nthe final round as Haqparast pressed the action with left hooks and
\nPadilla countered with body attacks. Padilla used his jab and leg
\nkicks to stifle Haqparast\u2019s offense before dropping him with a
\nright hook. He attempted to finish Haqparast with elbows on the
\nground. A wobbled Haqparast returned to his feet but was rendered
\nunconscious by an arm-triangle choke as the final horn sounded.
\nPadilla was declared the winner by technical submission 4:59 into
\nRound 3.<\/p>\n

A featherweight matchup between Marcio
\nBarbosa<\/a> (19-2, 2-0 UFC) and Ryan Kuse<\/a>
\n(10-3, 0-1 UFC) ended in the first round when Barbosa
\nshort-circuited Kuse with a left hook. Barbosa stuffed Kuse\u2019s
\ntakedown attempts, and both men landed three-punch combinations
\nduring the opening two minutes. Barbosa then landed a left hook
\nnear the top of Kuse\u2019s forehead that dropped him against the cage.
\nKuse appeared disoriented, and referee Jason Herzog stopped the
\nfight after taking a close look 2:47 into Round 1.<\/p>\n

Making the most of a short-notice opportunity, Stanley
\nDorsainvil<\/a> (6-0, 1-0 UFC) remained undefeated with a unanimous
\ndecision over Gauge Young<\/a>
\n(11-4, 2-2 UFC) at lightweight. Young stunned Dorsainvil with an
\nearly right hook and threw him to the canvas, where he landed more
\npunches until Dorsainvil returned to his feet against the cage.
\nDorsainvil connected with two looping hooks, and Young backed him
\nup with a combination. Young rocked Dorsainvil with a left hook
\nwith 30 seconds remaining in the round. Dorsainvil rallied and
\nfound success on the feet in the second round, backing up Young
\nwith two head kicks. Young\u2019s offensive output slowed considerably,
\nwhich allowed Dorsainvil to connect with two powerful right hooks
\nlate in the frame. Dorsainvil backed up Young with jabs and right
\nhands in the final round until Young tied him up in a clinch.
\nDorsainvil broke free with a head kick and an elbow, while Young
\nanswered with a right uppercut. Dorsainvil took his opponent down
\nand secured back control, but he lost the position, and the bout
\nended with an exchange of punches. All three judges scored it 29-28
\nfor Dorsainvil, who earned a victory in his promotional debut.<\/p>\n

Avenging a February 2020 amateur defeat, Jackson
\nMcVey<\/a> (8-2, 2-2 UFC) prevailed in his middleweight rematch
\nagainst Wesley
\nSchultz<\/a> (9-4, 1-2 UFC). Schultz pursued an early finish by
\ntrapping McVey in an arm-in guillotine choke, but McVey escaped to
\nhis feet and used his reach advantage to land right hands. He
\nbacked up Schultz with a knee and punches. In the final minute of
\nthe opening round, McVey landed a step-in knee to Schultz\u2019s body
\nthat doubled him over and dropped him to the canvas. McVey followed
\nwith punches, and the bout was stopped 4:13 into Round 1.<\/p>\n

The card opened with a one-sided women\u2019s strawweight matchup
\nbetween English striker Shanelle
\nDyer<\/a> (8-1, 2-0 UFC) and Elise Reed<\/a>
\n(8-6, 4-6 UFC). Dyer allowed Reed to move forward during the
\nopening minute and countered with jabs and a pair of hard right
\nhands, followed by a head kick. Reed struggled with Dyer\u2019s superior
\nspeed and absorbed another head kick during a subsequent exchange.
\nDyer attacked Reed\u2019s lead leg with kicks in the second round and
\ncontinued to land counter combinations whenever Reed attempted to
\nclose the distance. A left hook from Dyer opened a gash beside
\nReed\u2019s right eye, and blood covered the side of her face. Reed\u2019s
\ncorner considered stopping the bout before the third round, but
\nReed elected to continue. Dyer backed her against the cage and
\nunloaded with punches to secure a standing technical knockout 1:42
